It is likely that the monitor you are seeing this review is not an HDR-compatible display (High Dynamic Range) or Dolby Vision, where each pixel can be assigned with a wider and notably granular range of color and light. Our capture software if simulating the HDR (in a uniform manner) for standard monitors. This should make it easier for us to review more 4K UHD titles in the future and give you a decent idea of its attributes on your system. So our captures may not support the exact same colors (coolness of skin tones, brighter or darker hues etc.) as the 4K system at your home. But the framing, detail, grain texture support etc. are, generally, not effected by this simulation representation.

The audio is via the similar DTS-HD dual-mono track at 24 bits that was on the 2012 Blu-ray. This is notable for the dramatic and effective score by Frank Skinner (Back Street, The Sleeping City, The World in His Arms, Arabian Nights, The Lady Gambles, The Appaloosa, Madame X, Magnificent Obsession, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, All That Heaven Allows, Thunder Bay, and The Naked City). The music is augmented by Tchaikovsky's Tonight We Love ("Piano Concerto in B Flat Minor") sung by the men in the car, Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67 and some instrumental of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. It only shows a bit of its age sounding clean and even in the lossless. There are a three European, and a Japanese, language DUBs as well as plenty of foreign subtitle options plus English (SDH.) Both the 4K UHD disc and included Blu-ray are region FREE.

There are the duplicate extras on the 4K UHD disc and the second disc Blu-ray - rendered in 2012. Actually, nothing new from the older DVD and 2005's The Masterpiece Collection with Laurent Bouzereau's 2001, 36-minute, featurette Saboteur: A Closer Look with Norman Lloyd, Robert F. Boyle and Patricia Hitchcock providing input on the production. There are also a selection of 'Storyboards', 'Alfred Hitchcock's Sketches', 'Production Photographs' and a theatrical trailer.

Universal's 4K UHD release of Alfred Hitchcock's "Saboteur" has an impressively improved image - and the same audio and extras as the second disc, duplicate, Blu-ray. Hitchcock wanted Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck for the leads although in retrospect the pairing of Robert Cummings and Priscilla Lane seemed to be more appropriate. Some of the more patriotic speeches given by the protagonist were written by Dorothy Parker. Saboteur evokes Hitchcock's The 39 Steps as a spy-thriller adventure and road journey dodging pratfalls but running into wholesome characters with a blind man, salt-of-the-earth trucker and a circus caravan with a bearded lady, flirtatious Siamese twins and a bitter 'person of small stature' assisting them along the way. Romance blooms with our couple as they seek information on their daring road trip. Like The 39 Steps, "Saboteur" was originally meant to finish with a climax at the movie theatre - which ends up being the second to last scene. Instead we get a glimpse of another Hitchcock film, North By Northwest, with The Statue of Liberty replacing Mt. Rushmore. It's quite a brilliant thriller and one that slipped through the cracks for me as I hadn't seen it for quite a long time (admitting above I did not own the Blu-ray.) This is one of the three must-own films in The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection 2 4K UHD set. The other two, I believe, are Shadow of a Doubt and Marnie. Saboteur looks fantastic and I now rate this as a favorite. Strongly recommended!
