(aka "The Love Life of a Cop")
Directed by Leon Capetanos + Lewis Teague
USA 1974
Morgan Paull (Blade Runner) is Dirty O’Neil, a small-town policeman with a big-time libido. On the rare occasions when his pants are on, he patrols the neighborhood and coaches the girls’ basketball team. But when three nasty hoodlums appear in his peaceful California town, Dirty wastes no time dispensing justice. This sizzling slice of ’70s exploitation will quench your thirst for raunchy cop comedy! Co-directed by Leon Capetanos (Secret Life of a Schoolgirl Wife) and Lewis Teague (Alligator), and co-starring Art Metrano (Andy Sidaris’ Seven), Pat Anderson (TNT Jackson), Jeane Manson (The Young Nurses) and Katie Saylor (Invasion of the Bee Girls). *** A police officer has very little work as there is virtually no crime in his small California town...until three hoodlums appear and rape a young woman. |

On their
Blu-ray,
Code Red use a DTS-HD Master 2.0 channel track (24-bit) in the
original English language. Dirty O'Neil
has aggressive - notably in the conclusion with gunfire and a car crash
- they carry modest depth. The score is by versatile
journeyman Raoul Kraushaar (often credited as Ralph Stanley) who is credited with
film compositions for
She Should Have Said No,
Billy the Kid vs. Dracula, 1953's Invaders from Mars,
September Storm - 3D, and Fritz Lang's
The Blue Gardenia. Most of
his later work was in television until his retirement. Audio is about
the same level as the video - imperfect but without egregious flaws.
Code Red offer optional English
subtitles on their Region 'A'
Blu-ray.
The Code Red
Blu-ray
Well... Dirty O'Neil
is a bit notable with above-average (for this genre) production
features, a decent-enough story - if getting quite dark in the finale -
and there is a bevy of titillating 70's 'B' starlets - a few of whom
weren't afraid of onscreen nudity. Mostly it's a lot of cheesecake
posing in revealing, skimpy, clothing. These ladies include Pat Anderson (Bonnie's
Kids,) Jeane Manson (Charles Bronson's
10 to Midnight,) Katie Saylor
(Invasion
of the Bee Girls,) Kitty Carl (The
Centerfold Girls,) Tara Strohmeier (Truck
Turner,) Susie Ewing (briefly in Hal Ashby's
Shampoo,) Ella Edwards (an uncredited appearance in Mark
Robson's
Valley of the Dolls,) Anitra Ford (iconic 70's horror
Messiah of Evil getting eaten by zombies in the grocery store),
and June Fairchild (Thunderbolt
and Lightfoot.) Odds are you have seen these gals in plenty of
films. So, the plot is that this lothario police officer (Morgan Paull)
realizes he isn't taking his vocation seriously enough in a new small
town where he has moved. He is basically just getting laid... without
much effort. He gets a chance to redeem himself in a rather violent
confrontation with baddies. It's a corollary for the film itself which
also seeks recognition by ambitiously advancing beyond a superfluous
sexploitation comedy. There you have it. Dirty O'Neil
is better than you might expect. The, bare-bones, Code Red
