Get ready for two of the most shocking and controversial films from the golden age of 70s exploitation cinema, now available for the first time on Blu-ray!

In BONNIE'S KIDS, Tiffany Bolling and Robin Mattson turn in eye-popping performances as small town sisters who murder their pervert stepfather and flee to the big city, only to be caught up in a sleazy underworld of horny private eyes, predatory lesbians, $400,000 in stolen mob money, and a bantering pair of black and white hitmen. But these two sexy siblings are a force to be reckoned with, and no one is safe once they've fallen in with Bonnie's Kids!

In CENTERFOLD GIRLS, a bloodthirsty psychotic is brutally murdering a number of beautiful women nurses, students, stewardesses whose only connection is that they've all appeared as centerfolds in a popular men s magazine. Can this crazed killer be stopped before the next buxom beauty ends up with her throat slit?

Featuring standout supporting performances from Aldo Ray, Jaime Lyn Bauer, Andrew Prine and Sharon Gless among many others, these two drive-in classics from the legendary Arthur Marks (Linda Lovelace for President) have been meticulously restored from their original film elements and are now available in glorious HD for the first time!.

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Gorgon Video Blu-ray (November 2020): Gorgon Video have produced a 'Double Feature' of two 70s exploitation efforts; Bonnie's Kids and The Centerfold Girls to Blu-ray. The dual-layered disc houses both films in 1080P. While Bonnie's Kids looks surprisingly strong, The Centerfold Girls suffers from, what appears to be, a worn print and its image is softer and thicker. Both are consistent and I don't see any digitization. There are less-frequent speckles. Bonnie's Kids has surprisingly impressive detail in close-ups and rich colors - but The Centerfold Girls has grain-like noise and a few light damage marks. Nothing fatal.

NOTE: We have added 90 more large resolution Blu-ray captures (in lossless PNG format) for DVDBeaver Patrons HERE

On their Blu-ray, Gorgon Video use a linear PCM mono tracks (16-bit) in the original English language - for both films. It sounds authentically flat with a score on Bonnie's Kids by Carson Whitsett (Wonder Women) and for The Centerfold Girls, Mark Wolin (his only film credit) performed by 'Wheeze'. The Centerfold Girls again is a notch below in terms of audio clarity - a function of the source and/or production limitations. Gorgon Video offer optional English subtitles, for both titles, on their Region 'A' Blu-ray.

The Gorgon Video Blu-ray offers a quite a few extras. For Bonnie's Kids we get "A Touch of Tiffany" which is a 1/4 hour interview with a more mature Tiffany Bolling recalling her work with Arthur Marks and the era of 70's exploitation. In the 2010 16-minute "Arthur's Kids" Arthur Marks discusses how the major Hollywood Studios frequently dismisses the Drive-In market - rejecting the opportunity for their films to be shown there. This formed an advantage to the smaller independent distributors especially those vying for public dollars offering salacious descriptions, posters and titles. He gives a highly interesting encapsulation of this genre of film production in the 70's. There is also a trailer, 3 TV Spots and a dozen minute selection of musical cues form Bonnie's Kids.

On The Centerfold Girls side of the menu, we get "Making the Cut" - a 1/4 hour look back at Centerfold Girls. There is both the Red Band and Green Band trailers. The 'Red' variety can often convey the tone of an R-rated film better than a green-band trailer and would often be shown at the end of the film, after the credits. There are two TV Spots but the third is actually a Music Cues Easter Egg running shy of 6-minutes. There is a short radio spot and 23-minutes worth of select music cues - 18 of them.

This Drive-In exploitation genre of films, made in the 70's, offer a rare historical window on an interesting period of, what some describe as, 'Trash cinema'.

The title Bonnie's Kids may have tried to capitalize on Arthur Penn's Bonnie and Clyde made a few years before, although it is never directly referenced in the film. The Centerfold Girls is definitely the weaker of the two films in this Double Feature. It's actually three stories, the first with past-his-prime Aldo Ray (The Naked and the Dead), in the second some may recognize Mike Mazurki (Murder My Sweet), and the third with Arthur Marks' regular hottie, frequently playing a defiant femme fatale, Tiffany Bolling - also in Bonnie's Kids.  This Gorgon Video dual-layered Blu-ray is no cheapie with relevant supplements. Marks has an impressive reputation - he did production work on 75 MGM films, eventually working as an assistant director at Columbia Studios and he would go on to direct 76 episodes of the Raymond Burr Perry Mason TV series. I'm going to review another of these because I liked Bonnie's Kids enough to be intrigued with his work. There is value for those keen on revisiting 70's exploitation Drive-In experiences.
