ONE VOICE (not Ellsworth Monkton Toohey): 'For a change let's start with DVD. Eric and I compared the Criterion to a newer Umbrella SD edition of Federico Fellini's Nights of Cabiria. This is my personal #1 request for Blu-ray treatment. I see it as Fellini's most impacting work and as the best film not to be in the 1080P format, yet. Fingers crossed. On Blu-ray we have another cornucopia of genres from Andrei Tarkovsky's philosophical The Sacrifice (4K-Restored) on Blu-ray from Kino to their Blu-ray of the Merchant-Ivory production of Feast of July that comes with a commentary. Delbert Mann's Marty gets a complete Blu-ray treatment from Eureka as deserved a winner of both the Palme d'Or at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival, as well as Academy Award for Best Picture. I was thrilled to see Ingmar Bergman's The Magic Flute reach Blu-ray status from BFI. Paul Schrader’s “dramatized” biography of sex-obsessed Bob Crane, Auto Focus remains a fascinating film and now on Blu-ray from Twilight Time. I liked Ron Shelton's Dark Blue, on Arrow Blu-ray, with Kurt Russell as an L.A. cop in this story of corruption from novelist James Ellroy. The Psychopath is a gripping British version of an Italian "giallo" thriller, as interpreted by inventive director Freddie Francis. Exciting to have on Blu-ray from Kino with new audio commentary from Troy Howarth. Sherlock Holmes fans will love A Study in Terror - a 1960's film take on the world's most famous sleuth vs. Jack the Ripper. It's available on reasonably priced, bare-bones Blu-ray from Mill Creek. Caged Fury is another exploitation, gals in prison, flic on Blu-ray with a cast including porn-star Kascha, plus Janine Lindemulder, Erik Estrada, comedian Jack Carter, and James Hong. The 70's creature-feature Grizzly has Christopher George as a forest ranger battling a very deadly and hungry 15-foot grizzly bear - on Blu-ray from 88 Films. lastly is the adult, sex-themed musical Fairy Tales with "Scream Queen" Linnea Quigley. Meh.

Caged Fury BD - Prison chicks provide the basis for this exploitation film. The tale centers on two young women, one a naive, star-struck midwestern girl, and the other a savvy hitcher, who head for Tinseltown in search of stardom only to find themselves appearing in a soft-core porno flick. Unfortunately they end up arrested and thrown in prison where they are abused by the ubiquitous overbearing chief lesbian guard who forces inmates to become sexual slaves for the millionaires who frequent the penitentiary. Blu-ray Release Date: May 7th, 2018

Feast of July BD - A compelling tale of passion's dark secrets - critics applauded Feast of July as one of the best films of the year! A mysterious young beauty, Bella Ford (Embeth Davidtz), searches hopelessly for the lover who betrayed her. Weary and alone, she is offered shelter by the Wainwright family, who help her find new hope... and whose three handsome sons battle for her affections. But just as she is ready to begin her new life, her former lover unexpectedly reappears to haunt her with the secrets – of their past. Blu-ray Release Date: May 8th, 2018

Grizzly BD - This ecology-themed horror movie took its inspiration from the success of Jaws and moved that film's man-versus-nature conflict from the seaside to the forest. The plot of Grizzly focuses on Mike Kelly (Christopher George), a forest ranger whose peaceful tenure over a forest housing a busy nature lodge is interrupted by the arrival of a very deadly and hungry 15-foot grizzly bear. As the bear starts killing rangers and campers, Park Supervisor Charley Kittridge (Joe Dorsey) tries to cover up the problem and tries to keep Kelly from acting in a way that will cause public suspicion. Blu-ray Release Date: May 14th, 2018

Dark Blue BD - A cop's personal code of justice begins to change after a number of incidents lead his city to a tragic wave of violence in this police drama. Eldon Perry (Kurt Russell) is a veteran cop with the LAPD's Special Investigations unit, a man who isn't above bending the law if it means putting people behind bars who deserve the treatment. As Los Angeles waits on the verdict in the Rodney King police beating trial, Perry is presenting testimony to Assistant Chief of Police Arthur Holland (Ving Rhames), who is well aware of the corruption in the SIS unit and wants to stop it. Blu-ray Release Date: May 7th, 2018

A Study in Terror BD - When a suspicious package arrives at the master sleuth's Baker Street home, he and his old friend must join the hunt before more murders are committed... even though the trail may lead to places they'd rather not go. John Neville is one of the most authentic Holmes portrayers ever, and he's ably supported by Donald Houston as Watson, as well as such British acting royalty as Anthony Quayle, Robert Morley, Frank Finlay, Barbara Windsor, Cecil Parker and, in one of her earliest screen roles, Academy AwardŽ winner Dame Judi Dench. Blu-ray Release Date: April 3rd, 2018

Marty BD - I've been looking for a girl every Saturday night of my life, says Marty Piletti. Yet, despite all his efforts, this 34-year old Bronx butcher remains as shy and uncomfortable around women today as on the day he was born. So when he meets Clara (Betsy Blair, Il Grido), a lonely schoolteacher who's just as smitten with him as he is with her, Marty s on top of the world. But not everyone around him shares his joy. And when his friends and family continually find fault with Clara, even Marty begins to question his newfound love... until he discovers, in an extraordinary way, the strength and courage to follow his heart. The Psychopath BD - Though scripted by Psycho author Robert Bloch, this is neither a sequel nor a variant on the Alfred Hitchcock classic. Instead, we are presented with a more subdued British version of an Italian "giallo" thriller, as interpreted by acclaimed director Freddie Francis. The plot involves a pattern of grisly murders whose perpetrator leaves a small doll by the body of each victim. Blu-ray Release Date: April 10th, 2018

The Sacrifice (4K-Restored) BD - Sixtyish philosopher Alexander (Erland Josephson) lives in a beautiful house on an island off Sweden’s Baltic coast, with English wife Adelaide (Susan Fleetwood), teenage daughter Julia (Valerie Maitesse) and young son, known only as Gossen, or “Little Man” (Tommy Kjellvqist). It’s Alexander’s birthday, and he’s visited by eccentric bicycling postman Otto (Allan Erdawll) and smug doctor Viktor (Sven Wollter), who is “carrying on” with Adelaide. Out of the blue, a nuclear war is announced on TV - the telephones and electricity are cut off, and the air is filled with the deafening roar of passing jets. All looks bleak - but then Alexander fervently prays, asking God to avert the impending apocalypse, in return offering to turn his back on his home and family, and take a vow of silence. The Magic Flute BD - Hailed by many as the "finest screen version of an opera ever produced", Ingmar Bergman's The Magic Flute is something that is guaranteed to hold through several viewings. Cinematic master Sven Nykvist and only the finest Nordic singers of its time contribute to this fabulous production of Mozart's opera. Bergman, an accomplished organist and musicologist, lovingly brings one of the most intimate and joyful operas to life... as his personal peaen to classical music. Blu-ray Release Date: April 23rd, 2018

Auto Focus BD - Auto Focus (2002) is director Paul Schrader’s “dramatized” biography of Bob Crane (Greg Kinnear, in a career-making performance), a TV sitcom star (Hogan’s Heroes) who descended into sexual addiction, obsessed with recording his encounters with scores of women. Willem Dafoe co-stars as John Henry Carpenter, an electronics expert who encouraged and collaborated with Crane; he becomes a prime suspect after Crane is bludgeoned to death in an Arizona motel room. Blu-ray Release Date: April, 2018

Nights of Cabiria - Giulietta Masina won Best Actress at Cannes as the title character of one of Fellini’s most haunting films. Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film, Nights of Cabiria (Le Notti di Cabiria) is the tragic story of a naive prostitute searching for true love in the seediest sections of Rome. Umbrella DVD Release Date: April, 2018
