Directed by Gene Stupnitsky
USA 2023
Jennifer Lawrence produces and stars in No Hard Feelings, a laugh-out-loud, edgy comedy from Gene Stupnitsky (director Good Boys, co-writer of Bad Teacher). Maddie (Lawrence) thinks she’s found the answer to her financial troubles when she discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to "date" their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy, and bring him out of his shell before he leaves for college. But awkward Percy proves to be more of a challenge than she expected, and time is running out. She has one summer to make him a man or lose it all. *** On the brink of losing her childhood home, Maddie discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to date their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy, before he leaves for college. To her surprise, Maddie soon discovers the awkward Percy is no sure thing. |

NOTE:
The below
Blu-ray
captures were taken directly from the
Blu-ray
disc.
On their
Blu-ray,
Sony use a DTS-HD Master 5.1 surround track (16-bit) in the
original English language. There is also a descriptive audio track in
English and three foreign language DUBs. No Hard Feelings
has a few separations - car chases, fight on the beach, party etc. The score
was by
Mychael Danna (Little
Miss Sunshine, Ang Lee's
Ride With the Devil and
The Ice Storm, Egoyan's
Exotica,
Remember,
The Sweet Hereafter,
Chloe,
Adoration etc.) and Jessica
Rose Weiss (Don't
Make Me Go) sounding really nice supporting the film humor and
brief morose moods. There is sampling of other pop songs; Tommy James's
Draggin' the Line, The Stranglers, Shirley Bassey, The Stooges,
Hall & Oates' Maneater performed by, the co-star, Andrew Barth
Feldman, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band and others. It sounds
flawless. Sony offer English, English (SDH) and foreign language
subtitle options on their Region "A"/"C"
Blu-ray.
The Sony
Blu-ray
Gene Stupnitsky's No Hard Feelings
is not usual DVDBeaver material. We almost never review modern rom-coms. But I was sent this, I watched it with low expectations and...
I liked it enough to cover. Jennifer Lawrence is no
Anna May Wong or
Louise Brooks but she still has something very good going on. I don't
think I've ever seen her give a bad performance. Her character here is a
lot like the one in
Silver Linings
Playbook; loose, carefree, quick minded... which, in itself,
makes this a huge positive. In David O. Russell's film she becoming the
second-youngest winner for an Oscar for 'Best Actress' at age 22. No
Hard Feelings
