The Kino Blu-ray set (Columbo - Seasons 1 - 7) is compared / reviewed HERE Kino's 2024 Blu-ray of Columbo: The Return has the rest of the series and is reviewed / compared HERE Like the Season 4 Package from Universal - Season 5 contains 6 episodes (as opposed to 8 in Seasons 1-3). Devoid of extras (interviews etc.) but season 5, like season 3 + 4, also includes a kind of 'bonus' with the short-lived 'Mrs. Columbo' experiment (Mrs. Kate Columbo - Kate Mulgrew - follows in her husbands footsteps... as a reporter.). Like Season 1,2 and 4, these are on one side of 3 single-sided dual-layered layered DVDs. Only English subtitles are offered as an option. Image/Audio quality have no apparent flaws - detail is quite good - 'Now You See Him' may be a bit duller in the color department but it is nothing bothersome. I don't watch a lot of TV on DVD but personally I find these Columbo Boxsets some of the better transfers that I have seen. All episodes are clean and progressively transferred, but the bonus (Mrs. Columbo) is not from HD and exhibits 'trailing'. Columbo is something I
never seem to tire of and this DVD contains strong episodes - I would
just like more. Regulars
Patrick McGoohan (who also
directed 2 of the episodes), Robert Vaughn and Jack Cassidy are joined
by Janet Leigh, Sal Mineo, Ricardo Montalban, Hector Elizondo, Diane
Baker and Robert Loggia. I am
a big fan and would probably purchase regardless of price but this
package is quite reasonable for almost 9.5 hours of super entertainment.
You can't beat it for value.
