ADDITION: Arrow Blu-ray (January 2023): Arrow have transferred Lukas Moodysson's Fucking Åmål (aka "Show Me Love") to Blu-ray as part of their The Lukas Moodysson Collection that has Fucking Åmål, Together, Lilya 4-ever, A Hole in My Heart, Container, Mammoth, and We Are The Best!  It is cited as being from a "2K restoration by the Swedish Film Institute, approved by director Lukas Moodysson and cinematographer Ulf Brantås". This was shot on 16mm (Super 16) and, hence the 1080P image is very grainy. Colors are deeper and there is much more information in the frame as compared to the 2000 non-anamorphic Strand SD transfer which didn't effectively export the textures. The HD presentation is rich adhering to the original appearance of the film.

On their Blu-ray, Arrow offer the option of a DTS-HD Master 5.1 surround track or a linear PCM 2.0 channel (both 24-bit) in the original Swedish language. Fucking Åmål has no credited score but a nice mixture of music including Foreigner's I Want to Know What Love Is and Robyn Carlsson's Show Me Love used beautifully - and other pieces performed by Hjalle & Heavy, Lars Gullin as well as Fantasi för Elorgel # 34 by Karl-Heinz Glockmann composed by Nils Björkman (as 'Björkman') and Lukas Moodysson (as 'Moodysson'.) Arrow offer optional English subtitles on their Region FREE Blu-ray.

The Arrow Blu-ray includes an 18-minute interview with Lukas Moodysson who discusses his debut feature, in the first part of a career-spanning discussion with film programmer Sarah Lutton, newly produced by Arrow Video. There is also a 17-minute interview with actor / filmmaker Alexandra Dahlstriim who discusses her performance as Elin in Fucking Åmål by film programmer Sarah Lutton. Included is a 22-minute newly filmed appreciation of Fucking Åmål by Dr. Clara Bradbury-Rance, author of Lesbian Cinema After Queer Theory, and, lastly, a 1/4 hour short film, Talk (Bara prata lite), that was directed by Lukas Moodysson in 1997 and marked his first collaboration with Memfis Film. It is described as "Birger is old and retired from work. Still, he goes back to work since he has nothing else to do. Back home he gets a rare visitor: a girl from Hare Krishna recruiting new members. But his need for human contact proves to be to overwhelming for the girl." There is a theatrical trailer and image gallery. The package also has a 200-page hardback book featuring new writing by Peter Walsh, excerpts from the original press kits for each film, including interviews with and directors’ statements from Moodysson, and essays on his films from a 2014 special issue of the Nordic culture journal Scandinavica by C. Claire Thomson, Helga H. Lúthersdóttir, Elina Nilsson, Scott MacKenzie & Anna Westerståhl Stenport and Kjerstin Moody.

Lukas Moodysson's Fucking Åmål was soo due to arrive on Blu-ray. What a great experience revisiting this film after, what feels like, 20 years. Coming of age, conformity, growing pains and 'berg' existence in a joyfully positive experience. Awkward, geeky, Agnes and desirable hottie Elin find each other in all the small town distractions while waiting to mature into life's banalities. A warm, touching piece of sly cinema on maturing and the unforgettable sparks of first love. It initiates Arrow's The Lukas Moodysson Collection Blu-ray very positively. Go Arrow!
