ONE VOICE (not Ellsworth Monkton Toohey): Arrow make their Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno, Region FREE, Blu-ray the vastly superior option for this in-depth look at the masterpiece that might have been. Twilight Time's Blu-ray of Joseph L. Mankiewicz's Dragonwyck with Gene Tierney and Vincent Price in an atmospheric Gothic mystery. I really enjoyed The Way West with Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, Richard Widmark and a young Sally Field. The Kino Lorber Blu-ray is a huge step beyond the old DVD. Death Laid an Egg is a sexy Giallo with Jean-Louis Trintignant, Gina Lollobrigida and Ewa Aulin. The Cult Epics Blu-ray advances on the previous BD but there is still room to improve. On DVD, Eric covered the highly lauded Woodpeckers - a gripping prison drama from the Dominican Republic. He also covered Felicite - an interesting family-drama from Senegal. I rewatched and loved seeing Brian De Palma's neo-noir Femme Fatale on Warner Archive DVD. Savage Attraction is a harrowing true story from 1980s Australia, brought to DVD by Code Red.

Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno BD - One of the great, unfinished works in film history, Inferno, by Henri-Georges Clouzot was an audaciously experimental film with a virtually unlimited budget that was stopped only three weeks into production. Working closely with Clouzot's widow, Inès, Serge Bromberg and Ruxandra Medrea reconstructs Clouzot's original vision, filling and explaining the gaps with new interviews, re-enactments and Clouzot's own notes and storyboards, delivering an in-depth look at the masterpiece that might have been. Arrow Blu-ray Release Date: February 5th-6th, 2018

Dragonwyck BD - Based upon the bestselling novel “Dragonwyck” by Anya Seton, this is Joseph L. Mankiewicz’ directorial debut. It tells the story of the naïve farm girl Miranda (Gene Tierney). When she gets an invitation from a distant cousin, Nicholas Van Ryn (Vincent Price), to stay at his mansion. After much persuasion, she talks her father into letting her leave and thus she leaves her very religious family to live a life with the terribly rich and elegant. Blu-ray Release Date: February, 2018

Death Laid an Egg BD - A surreal Giallo which ranges from serial killings to infidelity, industrial espionage to romantic, sexual interludes - an odd love triangle existing in a mechanized chicken farm (hence the title). Secretary Gabrielle (Ewa Aulin of Candy fame) is seducing an estranged couple played by lothario Jean-Louis Trintignant and Gina Lollobrigida - as the dissatisfied, domineering wife. Gabrielle worms her way into their confidence.... and murder and double-crosses are in the air. Blu-ray Release date: November 30th, 2017

The Way West BD - In The Way West, Kirk Douglas plays a widowed senator and Robert Mitchum a trail scout with failing eyesight who lead a wagon train of pioneers from Missouri to Oregon. The property certainly had a good pedigree - it was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by A.B. Guthrie, Jr. Blu-ray Release Date: February 6th, 2018

Felicite - In Senegal's submission for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards FÉLICITÉ, the life of nightclub singer by night/opera singer in a local orchestra by day Félicité (Véro Tshanda Beya Mputu) starts to unravel when she receives a call that her fourteen-year-old son Samo (Gaetan Claudia) has been injured in a motorbike accident. At the hospital, she discovers that he needs an operation to save his leg and that the cost of a private room, the operation, and medications will cost her over a million francs. DVD Release Date: January 23rd, 2018

Woodpeckers - Sent to jail for an undetermined amount of time while awaiting a likely three-to-four year conviction for being the getaway driver of a robbery, Julian (Jean Jean) largely avoids being worked over as "fresh meat" with the cash given to him by his brother and arranging with friends on the outside to help smuggle items inside. With the help of dealmaker Bolo, he is able to get a relatively comfortable spot in overcrowded Section C and discovers that the men of the block communicate with their girlfriends in the women's jail across the courtyard with coded sign-language called "pecking" because they hang on to the bars of the block's window while communicating like woodpeckers perched on a branch. DVD Release Date: January 9th, 2018

Savage Attraction - In 1980s Australia, Young runaway Christine is dragged into a whirlpool of psychological terror when she marries a coworker, Walter, who turns out to be a modern-day Nazi. Pregnant and facing life-threatening complications, she's caught up in a wave of crime and deception when she accompanies him to Germany and becomes a hostage in a nightmare from which there may be no escape. DVD Release Date: January 30th, 2018

Femme Fatale - Brian De Palma blends the emotional netherworld of film noir with a stylish portrayal of life among the wealthy and powerful in Paris in this glossy thriller. Laure Ash (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) is a beautiful but mysterious woman who has aligned herself with a small ring of jewel thieves, led by a man known as Black Tie (Eriq Ebouaney), who has planned a major score during the Cannes Film Festival. DVD Release Date: May 12th, 2015
