(aka "The Jetsons: The Complete Original Series")
Directed by Joseph Barbera and William Hanna
"Meet George Jetson...Jane, his wife... daughter Judy...his boy, Elroy..." The catchy theme tune for The Jetsons ideally captures the lighthearted essence of the show, a futuristic counterpoint to The Flintstones that reflected the space-age optimism of the times. The Jetsons were the very first family, animated or not, to have a big-screen home entertainment system decades before it became a reality. They also had flying cars, floating cities and androids, all commonplace scenery in today's most popular sci-fi blockbusters. Now this beloved series teletransports onto Blu-ray, all 24 hilarious Season One episodes - plus soaring extras! *** While the Flintstones lived in a world which was a comical version of the "stone age", with machines powered by birds and dinosaurs, the Jetsons live in a comical version of a century in the future, with elaborate robotic contraptions, aliens, holograms, and whimsical inventions. The original series comprised 24 episodes and aired on Sunday nights on ABC beginning September 23, 1962, with prime time reruns continuing through September 22, 1963. It debuted as the first program broadcast in color on ABC-TV. (Only a handful of ABC-TV stations were capable of broadcasting in color in the early 1960s.) In contrast, The Flintstones, while always produced in color, was broadcast in black-and-white for its first two seasons. Excerpt from Wikipedia located HERE |

NOTE:
The below
Blu-ray
captures were taken directly from the
Blu-ray
disc.
On their
Blu-ray,
Warner Archive use a DTS-HD Master 2.0 channel track (24-bit) in the
original English language. It is another advancement in the film's audio
and memorable snappy score by Hoyt Curtin (Jonny
Quest), sounding a bit deeper with
more consistent dialogue. Warner Archive offer optional English
subtitles on their Region FREE
Blu-ray.
The Warner Archive
Blu-ray has the same extras as their
DVD sets. There are audio commentaries by Janet Waldo (the voice of Judy
Jetson!) on 2 episodes; Rosey the Robot and A Date With
Jet Screamer and they are fun, with gaps - she talks of rehearsals
etc. There are also three featurettes on the final
Blu-ray:
The Jetsons: The Family of the Future running 9-minutes, Space
Age Gadgets for 5-minutes and Rosey Robotic Maid Tribute for
3.5 minutes. There is also a "Nuclear Family Album" with images
and text describing each of the family characters.
The Jetsons is overload with nostalgia value. The futuristic
jokes and plots are always amusing. |
