Otto Kellar (O.E. Hasse) and his wife Alma (Dolly Hass) work as caretaker/gardner and housekeeper at a Catholic church in Canada. In the act of robbing a house where he occasionally gardens, Otto is surprised and inadvertently murders the owner. Torn with feelings of guilt and shame, he confesses to Father Michael William Logan (Montgomery Clift) back at the church. Police investigators don't look to Otto, instead begin to suspect Father Logan as he devoutly refuses to reveal what he has been told in the confessional.
Kind of a hidden Hitchcock film, this is a "hidden gem" if he can be said to posses such a work (they are all well-known and superb). Excellent performances and brilliant stark cinematography are hallmarks of this film. Truly a pleasure for Hitch fans who have not indulged themselves previously. |

Warner utilize a DTS-HD Master track that supports the score of the iconic Dimitri Tiomkin (Angel Face, Strangers on a Train, The Men, Dial M For Murder, The Thing From Another World etc. etc.) - it sounds regal and exemplary in uncompressed . There are optional subtitles and lossy DUBs on the region FREE Blu-ray disc.Again, same extras as the DVD - the 20-minute featurette "Hitchcock's Confession; A Look at 'I Confess" by Laurent Bouzereau from 2004. We also get a glimpse of the Gala Canadian Premiere for 'I Confess' and a theatrical trailer. I've always liked this Hitchcock film and for those who also appreciated it - the Blu-ray is a no-brainer for your digital library. It's really quite a striking film in 1080P. |
