Ex-tennis pro Tony Wendice (Ray Milland) makes a
decision to murder his
wife Margot (Grace Kelly) for her money and because she had indiscretions with
Mark Halliday (Robert Cummings). First he blackmails an old college associate to
strangle her, but when things go awry he envisions a way
to turn the circumstances to his advantage. Classic Hitchcock with superb cast!
Note his occasional use of obtuse camera angles!

This was
a highly anticipated DVD. The colors (Technicolor) look wonderful and
there is sharpness to the image. Grace Kelly looks as lovely as ever.
There are issues though - I can only guess because it was shot in '3D',
there may have been some problems with the transfer process - not as
noticeable on a television, but when blown up using HTPC you may notice
some ghosting/strobing on the edges of contrasted images - especially outdoors. It
is shame, but still this looks very good overall. Audio is
consistent - it looks like they took the trouble to do this right - I am
so relieved. Featurettes in the extras are top-notch with "Hitchcock and
Dial M" having comments from Peter Bogdanovich, M. Night Shyamalan,
Richard Franklin, writer Nat Benchley, historian Robert Osbourne, and
Pat Hitchcock. This is a must-own! |
