ESCAPE FROM AREA 51 begins when a group of teenage conspiracy theorists try to raid the infamous military base, Area 51, in the Nevada desert. No one gets in - but someone gets out.

Sheera (D'Errico), a sexy alien warrior, uses a power glitch to escape from captivity at Area 51. Her escape using a portal gun sets off an energy signature which attracts the attention of her arch-rival in space Sklarr (Browning). Sheera must now elude an Area 51 scientist, as well as Sklarr, to rescue her fellow warrior and find her way back to her planet.

ADDITION: Cleopatra Blu-ray (September 2021): Cleopatra have transferred Eric Mittleman's Escape from Area 51 to Blu-ray. It is shot on HD in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The 1080P transfer is on a single-layered disc with a high bitrate. It looks quite good - if video-ey and a bit waxy (as per the HDV format) but colors are vibrant, some effects are kinda cool and it is, obviously, pristinely clean. However, the presentation is not the major problem with Escape from Area 51.

On their Blu-ray, Cleopatra offer lossy Dolby tracks in both 5.1 surround and a 2.0 channel stereo option, in the original English language (with some Sklarr?) Escape from Area 51 has plenty of audio effects and they come through with minor depth and a few deft separations. The score is credited to John Boegehold (Predator World), and there is some obnoxious heavy-metal-like rock riffs. Cleopatra include no subtitle options on their Region FREE Blu-ray.

The Cleopatra Blu-ray offers a few extras. Supplements include 50-seconds of Franke Sixx Behind the Scenes (Frankie Sixx is the daughter of the films star Donna D'Errico and Motley Crue founder/rock star Nikki Sixx making her film debut.) There is a slideshow, trailer for the film and other Cleopatra Entertainment trailers. There is a second disc CD of the film's music (that I have not sampled.) The track listing is above.

Okay, okay, okay... Escape from Area 51 is pure trash - T+A, redneck jokes etc. But, I suggest that it's better than you might anticipate; better production values, effects, and Donna D'Errico's acting... certainly wasn't horrible. She's okay, channeling some Barbarella-esque innocence while mostly kicking ass. BTW, she's 53?!? (Playmate of the Month for September 1995.) I liked the subtlety of showing the flat earth visual. Yes, there are cute jabs at conspiratards. While I am not defending Escape from Area 51 at all - I will just say that it was less sophomoric than I was anticipating. The Cleopatra Blu-ray allows you to watch the film in the comfort of your home. Fans of Ms. D'Errico may wish to revisit for the outfit she is wearing... or if you are under the influence. That is all.

P.S. There is one bit of nudity but not Donna - rather a celestial, pregnant, flower-child appearing briefly sans clothes on a kind of weird webcam. Meh.
