NOTE:
The below
Blu-ray
captures were taken directly from the
Blu-ray
disc.
On their
Blu-ray,
Coldwater offer the choice of a DTS-HD Master 5.1 surround track or a linear PCM
stereo track (both 16-bit) in the
original English language. Bigfoot or Bust!
is really majority dialogue with few demonstrative effects. The music is
credited to Chuck Cirino who is also the cinematographer, editor and
visual effects artist for the film. I'm sure you get the idea. He did do
the score for Wynorski's
Chopping Mall and
Sorceress and over 80 other films. Coldwater offer optional
English subtitles on their Region FREE
Blu-ray.
The Coldwater
Blu-ray
Firstly we should dispel the rumor that
Criterion were trying to obtain this title for their catalogue. They
missed out bigly. We don't review a lot of Bigfoot movies, (Hammer's
The Abominable Snowman may be the closest) but I do like the
genre, now and again - notably the documentaries (special mention to
Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie from
2008, on DVD only) - and we even have a section for them in our
Creature Features
Blu-ray
webpage. Jim Wynorski's Bigfoot or Bust!
is a boobsploitation comedy... with a guy in an ineffective Bigfoot
costume infrequently running around mountain trails. It is
quintessential guerrilla filmmaking with a micro budget, skeleton crews,
and limited props. The filmmaker's intent was a lot of pretty girls, no nudity and a
Bigfoot story. We have reviewed a few Jim Wynorski's films on DVD and Blu-ray;
Chopping Mall with Barbara Crampton,
Sorceress with Linda Blair,
Not of This Earth (Traci Lords version,) his debut film
The Lost Empire, as well as
Gila!, and
Piranhaconda. He has had association with Roger Corman and his
first produced screenplay was
Forbidden World.
So he's a veteran of the exploitation genre. The gals here are a little past
their due-date and it's not much of a Bigfoot film at all. The
ultra-widescreen 3.35:1 sequence - homage to
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly - was a cool and humorous touch.
The niche market for this may be as small as the budget. The Coldwater Blu-ray
