(aka "Anita – ur en tonårsflickas dagbok" or "Anita" or "Swedish Nymphet" or

"Anita: Swedish Nymphet" or "Anita: The Shocking Account of a Young Nymphomaniac")

Directed by Torgny Wickman
Sweden / France 1973

Christina Lindberg (Thriller - A Cruel Picture) is ANITA, a teenage nymphomaniac who feels compelled to seduce every man she meets; students, hippies, businessmen and bums. After being rescued from a particularly dirty old man by a psychology student Erik (played by a young Stellan Skarsgård decades before he starred in Hollywood films like Pirates of the Caribbean, and also played a very similar character in Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac), he attempts to uncover the causes of Anita’s aberrant behavior.

Directed by one of Sweden’s most significant sexploitation filmmakers, Torgny Wickman (The Language of Love), this cult classic uses a serious study of nymphomania as a pretext for scorching eroticism. Presented in a new 4K restoration of its original Swedish version as well as a new 2K scan of Les impures, the French theatrical version, a different edit featuring an abundance of exclusive sex and nudity!

ADDITION: Klubb Super 8 Blu-ray (August 2025): Klubb Super 8 have transferred Torgny Wickman's Anita: Swedish Nymphet to Blu-ray. It is offered in 1080P in the original Swedish version in a new 4K restoration that captures the film's gritty 1970s aesthetic with natural film grain, solid detail, and pleasing color reproduction throughout its urban and rural settings. While mild print damage is evident in occasional specks and vertical scratches (left side), it remains non-distracting, and the image avoids heavy digital manipulation, though some subtle noise reduction may smooth certain elements slightly, preserving the organic texture of the original 35mm elements without edge enhancement or compression artifacts. The alternate French edit, Les impures, is included as an extra and receives a 2K scan from a duplicate negative, offering a comparable but more damaged look and less-balanced colors with additional explicit footage integrated. The "look" of Anita: Swedish Nymphet is characterized by a stark, unflinching social realism that aligns with the gritty aesthetic of 1970s Scandinavian cinema, emphasizing psychological depth over erotic glamour. Cinematographer Hans Dittmer (Hungry Young Women) employs a harshly utilitarian style, stripping away any romanticism to present urban Sweden as a loveless, desolate landscape reminiscent of broken concrete in UK social realist films, with naturalistic lighting that enhances the film's melancholic and isolating tone. See our captures below.

On their Blu-ray, Klubb Super 8 use a linear PCM dual-mono track (16-bit) in the original Swedish language with a mono option with a German DUB. It delivers clear dialogue and score integration that suits the film's low-budget origins. Sound design is notably raw: most of the film uses live location audio for authenticity, contributing to the gritty realism, but sequences in Anita's parents' home have a tinny, dubbed quality that adds an edge of surrealism and detachment, mirroring her familial alienation. The "sound" of Anita: Swedish Nymphet complements its visual austerity with a sparse, functional audio landscape that blends dramatic restraint with occasional erotic undertones, reflecting the film's pseudo-psychological seriousness. The score, composed by Lennart Fors (The Devil's Messenger) and director Torgny Wickman, incorporates frequent classical pieces - such as "Spring" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons - to underscore emotional moments, but these are presented in a de-romanticized, "kitchen sink" manner that strips away sentimentality, aligning with the film's dour tone. Overall, the audio transfer supports avoiding exploitative flair, opting for understated cues that enhance the film's solemn exploration of trauma, making the auditory experience as joyless and introspective as its visuals, with music serving more as psychological punctuation than titillating accompaniment. With a few warts the uncompressed transfer seems to authentically export the film's sound. Klubb Super 8 offer optional English subtitles on their Region FREE Blu-ray.

The Klubb Super 8 Blu-ray extras package is quite extensive starting with an audio commentary by film historians Jason Carter and Rickard Gramfors, who delve into Christina Lindberg's career, the film's production history, various edits including a rumored hardcore version, Torgny Wickman's directorial style, and connections to broader Swedish cinema of the era. Complementing this are two documentaries: Stellan, Sex and Psychotherapy - running shy of a dozen minutes -, a 2006 featurette with Lindberg and costume designer Klinga Wickman discussing filming experiences, locations, and collaborations with Stellan Skarsgård; and Christina and Torgny: Christina Lindberg Career Interview - 3/4 hour - from Wickman Week 2024, where Lindberg reflects on her modeling beginnings, international exploits like Sex & Fury, and post-acting life. Additional supplements include a British trailer, the complete French-dubbed alternate edit Les impures with its rearranged scenes and extra softcore content scanned from a duplicate negative and subtitled in English, a poster, title card and image gallery showcasing promotional materials, and a dedicated gallery of Christina Lindberg Centerfolds and Articles from 1969–1984, featuring provocative photos and period publications that highlight her iconic status in exploitation cinema.

Torgny Wickman's Anita: Swedish Nymphet stars Christina Lindberg (Black Circle, Maid in Sweden, Thriller - A Cruel Picture) in the lead role as Anita, a young woman grappling with nymphomania, alongside a young Stellan Skarsgård (Insomnia, In Order of Disappearance, Breaking the Waves, Good Will Hunting) as Erik, a psychology student who becomes her confidant and potential savior. The narrative centers on Anita, a 17-year-old (portrayed as 16 in some descriptions) outcast from a dysfunctional family - neglectful parents and a distant sister - who has developed into a physically mature woman but remains psychologically immature and ruthless in her pursuits. Labeled a nymphomaniac, Anita compulsively engages in sexual encounters with a wide array of men, including lawyers, junkies, students, hippies, drunks, the homeless, and even older figures like a school teacher or a man at a railway station, often in public or sordid settings such as libraries, alleys, or train stations. At its core, the film grapples with nymphomania not as an erotic fantasy but as a debilitating psychological condition akin to a disease, rooted in trauma, repression, and societal double standards. Sexuality is portrayed through a lens of compulsion rather than desire, exploring how abuse perpetuates the cycle and how love or therapy might offer escape. Torgny Wickman's direction aims for seriousness, using time jumps and flashbacks to unpack Anita's backstory, but it often prioritizes exploitation with frequent nudity and softcore scenes, including a lesbian interlude for titillation. Stylistically, it fits the 1970s sexploitation mold - serious in intent but campy in execution - distinguishing itself from lighter fare through its focus on misery over fun. Ultimately, the film's strengths lie in its performances and gritty realism, making it a worthwhile watch for genre enthusiasts, but its weaknesses in scripting and depth render it more a curiosity than a masterpiece, emblematic of an era when erotica aspired to artistry. Klubb Super 8's Blu-ray of Anita: Swedish Nymphet stands as a commendable archival effort for fans of 1970s European sexploitation, delivering a film-like presentation through its 4K restoration and thoughtful extras that provide deep context on the production, cast, and cultural impact, making it a worthwhile upgrade despite the film's inherent flaws in scripting and pacing. While the audio remains functional rather than spectacular, the inclusion of the alternate French cut and Lindberg-focused supplements elevates the package, offering value for collectors interested in Swedish cinema's edgier side, and it comes recommended as an essential release that balances historical preservation with engaging bonus content.
