NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Kino Blu-ray (January 2021): Kino have transferred Harvey Hart's Dark Intruder to Blu-ray. It is cited as being from a "Brand New 2K Master". This was a made-for-TV pilot that wasn't picked-up and was released as a movie despite running just under an hour. It's well-made and would have made a fabulous TV series. This 1080P transfer is in the 1.66:1 aspect ratio and looks exceptionally tight and clean. It's black and white with a touch of gloss, grain texture, exhibiting depth and impressive contrast. The max'ed out bitrate provides an impressive HD presentation.

On their Blu-ray, Kino use a DTS-HD Master dual-mono track (16-bit) in the original English language. There are aggressive effects and another effective score by Argentinean Lalo Schifrin (Mission Impossible TV Series, Joe Kidd, Rollercoaster, Charley Varrick, The Nude Bomb, Day of the Animals, Hit!, Man on a Swing, The Manitou, Tango and many other films) adding to the film's mystery elements. Kino offer optional English subtitles on their Region 'A' Blu-ray.

The Kino Blu-ray offers a new commentary by Gary Gerani co-author of Fantastic Television: A Pictorial History of Sci-Fi, the Unusual and Fantastic From Captain Video to the Star Trek Phenomenon and Beyond... and Top 100 Horror Movies. He discusses how this a made-for-TV Pilot, and notices details like how Lalo Schifrin's name is misspelled in the credits (and Leslie Nielsen's in the trailer), how Dark Intruder was going to be a 'Monster of the Week' show and he addresses the origin of the film and its relationship to Alfred Hitchcock and Alfred Hitchcock Presents TV show. He talks about the writer Barré Lyndon and his other projects and much more... It's excellent. There is also a new 11-minute interview with Mike Westmore, makeup artist Bud Westmore's son and he discusses the legacy of a huge family of Westmores in film production. We recommend The Westmores of Hollywood by Frank Westmore. Lastly is a trailer.

Dark Intruder is excellent - evoking Val Lewton, Jacques Tourneur's Night of the Demon and Kolchak the Night Stalker with a dash of Jekyll and Hyde thrown in. Leslie Nielsen plays a kind of eccentric and mysterious 'occult bon vivant' - humorous, a lady's man with a 'person of small stature' as his capable manservant - really a great character for him. Many people dearly wish this was part of a long-running series. Despite it's short length of an hour, Dark Intruder is very satisfying. The Kino Blu-ray of an appealing 60's horror-mystery with stellar image and Gerani commentary is a desirable purchase. Absolutely recommended!
