From Arnold Laven, the director of Anna Lucasta, Geronimo, The Monster That Challenged The World and Sam Whiskey, comes this tension-filled western starring screen greats Dean Martin (Texas Across the River), George Peppard (Newman’s Law) and Jean Simmons (Elmer Gantry). One-time lawman Alex Flood (Martin) is now the ruthless boss of Jericho—a town he once helped to clean up. Now this officer-gone-bad has bullied his way into owning more than half of all of Jericho’s businesses with the exception of the stagecoach line run by the strong-willed widow Molly Lang (Simmons). Molly and the townspeople turn to former Deputy U.S. Marshal Dolan (Peppard) for help but he refuses to take on the tyrant, figuring any confrontation with Flood or his men is a losing battle. How far can one man be pushed before he finally fights back? Co-starring Slim Pickens (The Getaway) and John McIntire (Backlash).

The only business in the Wild West town of Jericho that corrupt sheriff Alex Flood doesn't control behind the scenes is the stagecoach owned by tough-willed widow Molly Lang and her right-hand man, Hickman. Former marshal Dolan, recently hired by Lang and Hickman as a driver, wants to stay out of the mess, but when he sees Flood's henchman Yarbrough assault Lang, he steps up to fight the corruption.

ADDITION: Kino Blu-ray (January 2021): Kino have transferred Arnold Laven's Rough Night in Jericho to Blu-ray. It is on a dual-layered disc with a max'ed out bitrate. It is in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio and colors are rich, texture prevalent and no damage. There are some impressive vistas shot in Arizona and Utah. The 1080P is consistent and provides a decent HD presentation. No complaints.

On their Blu-ray, Kino use a DTS-HD Master / linear PCM mono track (24-bit) in the original English language. Western genre related effects come through effectively. The score by Don Costa (Madigan) supports the film with some unique music. Kino offer optional English subtitles on their Region 'A' Blu-ray.

The Kino Blu-ray offers a new commentary by Film Historian Samm Deighan. Samm discusses this rare western where Dino is not the happy-go-lucky protagonist - but, instead, a nasty piece of work. She covers the film's themes of 'tough men', 'honest law', more about the director Arnold Laven, Jean Simmons interesting role and much more. It's at her usual high standard. Great work Samm. There is also a trailer for the film and other western genre and Peppard trailers.   

Rough Night in Jericho is a tough western - no cattle, land or gold grabs - but uncompromised violence. I was surprised at its intensity and the depth of the thriller aspects. Well realized. Dean was very effective as the ruthless town-owner and great to see Jean Simmons still looking sweet and sassy at almost 40. I'm really glad I saw this on Kino Blu-ray and Samm's commentary adds excellent value.
