(aka "Fei ying gai wak" or "Armour of God II - Operation Condor" or "Operation Condor"

or "Project Eagle" or "Operation Condor: Armour of God II" or "Operation Eagle")

Directed by Jackie Chan
Hong Kong 1991

The Asian Hawk is back! Undeterred by nearly dying while making the first Armour of God, Jackie Chan returned to battle for a sequel that's bigger, better and even more daring. This time, Jackie's intrepid treasure hunter is on the hunt for some Nazi gold but recovering it will not be easy, let alone safe.

The most expensive Hong Kong film produced at that time, Armour of God II: Operation Condor showcases some of Jackie's best stunts and action, building up to an epic climax that will blow you off your feet. The black belts at 88 Films are thrilled to present the UK Blu-Ray premier – uncut! – of this great fan favourite.

***

Agent Jackie is hired to find WWII Nazi gold hidden in the Sahara desert. He teams up with three bungling women (the 3 stooges?) who are all connected in some way. However a team of mercenaries have ideas on the ownership of the gold. A battle / chase ensues as to who gets there first. Lots of choreographed Kung-Fu and quirky Chan humor.

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: 88 Films Blu-ray (June 2020): 88 Films have transferred Jackie Chan's 1991 Armour of God II - Operation Condor to Blu-ray. This package includes the 'Hong Kong Cut' as well as the 10-minute longer "Extended Cut" of the film, sharing the same dual-layered Blu-ray. They are transferred similarly and the quality seems to be the extact same between the two versions. The image quality is strong - surprisingly so. Kudos to the Arthur Wong cinematography shot in Morocco, The Philippines and Madrid, Spain. The contrast is adept, colors are true and there is depth present. It looks very pleasing on system without any inconsistencies in the 1080P visuals.

NOTE: We have added 63 more large resolution Blu-ray captures (in lossless PNG format) for DVDBeaver Patrons HERE

On their Blu-ray, 88 Films offer linear PCM tracks - 16-bit in dual-mono or stereo (mixed for home video) both in Cantonese - also included is an English language DUB (entitled 'Classic'.) The, almost 2-hour, extended cut also goes uncompressed in a 24-bit original Cantonese track. Effects in the numerous fighting sequences pack some punch but are limited to the flatness of the production limitations. There is an active and pleasing score by Chris Babida (Wheels on Meals), adding flavor to the action. 88 Films offer optional English subtitles, for both cuts, on their Region 'B' Blu-ray.

The 88 Films Blu-ray offers a new audio commentary with Mike Leeder and Arne Venema having some fun while exporting some interesting details about Jackie and the production often mentioning the Indiana Jones vibe that they were emulating, stunts, the other stars etc.. There is also a new 20-minute interview with actor/filmmaker Bruce Fontaine who played Adolf's Guard #4 in Armour of God II - Operation Condor. He is essentially a stunt guy and discussed that aspect and his career in that vocation as well as his love of the Wushu sport and film gene, his move to Hong Kong in 1988 taking acting lessons and more. There is an original trailer and a re-edit 2K trailer. The package has a reverse sleeve featuring the original HK poster art and a limited edition slipcase by Kung Fu Bob O'Brien and a limited edition booklet with notes by William Blaik.

Harkening to Raiders of the Lost Arc or Lara Croft adventures, Armour of God II - Operation Condor has Jackie Chan's chase-scenes, hand-combat acrobatics, pretty gals, exotic locations and plenty of fun in a style and infectious formula that he seems to have patented. This is another above-average effort and thank to 88 Films we get both cuts, commentary and more. Jackie's large fanbase should indulge in this Blu-ray. I'm gonna have to make a larger shelf just for my "Jackie's". Another nice looking 88 Films package too - absolutely recommended!
