We have started a Patreon page with the hopes that some of our followers would be willing to donate a small amount to keep DVDBeaver alive. We are a tiny niche, so your generosity is vital to our existence.

We are talking about a minimum of $0.10 - $0.15 a day, perhaps a quarter (or more) to those who won't miss it from their budget. It equates to buying DVDBeaver a coffee once, twice or a few times a month. You can then participate in our monthly Silent auctions, and have exclusive access to many 'bonus' High Resolution screen captures (in lossless PNG Format) - both 4K UHD and Blu-ray (see HERE).

To those that are unfamiliar, Patreon is a secure/verified third-party service where users can agree to a monthly donation via credit card or PayPal by clicking the button below.

(aka "Xtro 3: Watch the Skies" or "Xtro-3 - O Massacre" or "Xtro-3 - O Massacre")

Directed by Harry Bromley Davenport
USA 1995

A group of military personnel have been assembled to, they believe, locate and disarm old active explosives which have been left unattended at a former army testing site on a remote island. But when they arrive at the deserted island, they soon discover that something doesn't seem quite right about their mission. Soon enough, they uncover a strange concrete block which, after accidentally blowing up, unleashes an indestructible, bloodthirsty alien being which will stop at nothing to kill them. As the survivors band together in order to stay alive and try and find a way to outwit the diabolical creature, they realize that their entire mission might have been a trap and that the military is using them as pawns in their own vicious plan...

The third and most violent entry in the XTRO trilogy, Harry Bromley Davenport's XTRO 3: WATCH THE SKIES moves the setting to Southern California while amping up both the action and the gore, through a series of nasty and inventive death scenes. Featuring a talented supporting cast, including Virgil Frye (Easy Rider, Graduation Day), Andrew Divoff (Air Force One, Toy Soldiers), Nigel Gibbs (Pump Up the Volume), and Robert Culp (I Spy) and photographed by Irv Goodnoff (Evilspeak, The Farmer),

***

USMC bomb de-sploderer Kirns (Sal Landi) and expendable chums are enlisted by shady military types to go and clean up a remote island which was used as an internment camp during WW2. They want to build a “refuelling depot” but first need to clear the island of live ammunition and rabbits. Dogged by what sounds like an unseen cougar (I should think an unseen one sounds very much like a seen one), these cowboys go about their business and manage to explode a mysterious block of concrete. On hearing the news, Fetterman (Andrew Divoff), the team’s sneering overseer, takes off with the boat they arrived on, stranding them. It’s all a cover; an alien spacecraft, plus occupants, was secretly brought here decades ago…

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray (April 2020): Vinegar Syndrome have transferred Harry Bromley Davenport's Xtro 3: Watch the Skies to Blu-ray. It is cited as being "Newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 35mm camera negative". the 1080P looks far better than the film deserves. Plenty of textures in the nighttime sequences and the day lit image is bright. The HD [presentation is clean and consistent. It's appearance wasn't it's biggest problem (I shouldn't say that, I actually kinda liked it.... in spots.)

NOTE: We have all 32 large resolution Blu-ray captures (in lossless PNG format) for DVDBeaver Patrons HERE

On their Blu-ray, Vinegar Syndrome use a DTS-HD Master 2.0 channel track (24-bit) in the original English language. There are a few potent effects - explosions, fire, alien-related sounds - and score by Van Rieben (Xtro 3 his only film credit), sounding fairly unremarkable. Vinegar Syndrome offer optional English subtitles on their Region FREE Blu-ray.

The Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray offers two new interviews. The first is entitled "Winning and Losing" and runs 20-minutes with director Harry Bromley Davenport who tells us he has directed 14 feature films - none of which, he admits, are very good. He described the differences directing movies in California as opposed to his earlier productions in France, the UK and Canada. There is also an 18-minute interview with writer/actor Daryl Haney entitled "Acting like a Writer" where he discusses the inability to be taken seriously ion either profession because he was credited as both. I *think* I recall his small part a soldier in Stuart Orme's The Puppet Masters. He has done a lot of TV since Xtro 3. There is an original trailer and the package has reversible cover artwork.

Well, firstly - I think Xtro 3: Watch the Skies is superior to it's IMDb rating. It has many similarities to Arnold Schwarzenegger Predator from 8 years previous. Some might say a 'rip-off' of that popular actioner. Sure, overall Xtro 3: Watch the Skies doesn't work - but it has moments and certain elements that I enjoyed. I might even check out the first two installments, respectively with Maryam d'Abo and Jan-Michael Vincent.  Xtro 3 is a throw-away film but sometimes I am in the mood for that type of cinematic trash niche. The Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray will appeal to those who also occasionally share that appreciation.
