(aka "Max's Bar" or "The Guys from Max's Bar")
Directed by Richard Donner
USA 1980
Directed by Richard Donner (Superman, Lethal Weapon, Ladyhawke, The Goonies, The Omen) and featuring an Oscar-nominated performance by Diana Scarwid, (Psycho 3, Strange Invaders), Inside Moves tells the inspiring story of Roary (John Savage, Hotel Colonial, The Deer Hunter, Hair), a former sports star left crippled by a failed suicide attempt. Hanging out in a neighborhood bar full of colorful misfits, Roary forges an unforgettable bond with the bartender, Jerry (David Morse, The Indian Runner, St. Elsewhere, Desperate Hours), an injured basketball player. Together with the rest of the bar regulars, Roary sets out to help Jerry triumph over adversity and fulfill his potential, in this powerful celebration of the human spirit. Also starring Academy Award winner Harold Russell, now watch this great drama from a brand new HD master. *** After a failed suicide attempt leaves him partially crippled, Rory begins spending a lot of time at a neighborhood bar full of interesting misfits. When Jerry the bartender suddenly finds himself playing basketball for the Golden State Warriors, Rory and the rest of the bar regulars hope his success will provide a lift to their sagging spirits. Will Jerry forget his friends? What about his junkie hooker girlfriend and her pimp. |

NOTE:
The below
Blu-ray
captures were taken directly from the
Blu-ray
disc.
On their
Blu-ray,
Scorpion Releasing use a DTS-HD Master 2.0 channel track (24-bit) in the
original English language. It is a little scattered but consistent
adding to the vérité feel and has a supportive score by the
iconic John Barry (The
Whisperers, Boom, Deadfall,
The Chase, Midnight
Cowboy, Dances
With Wolves and the Bond themes
among his many credits) sounding
buoyant and pleasing with positive, uplifting vibes. Scorpion Releasing offer optional English
subtitles (see sample below) on their Region 'A'-locked
Blu-ray.
The Scorpion
Blu-ray
Inside Moves
is fantastic. Richard Donner's 'positive' film has its own edginess that
propels it to effectiveness. Savage is always great - a perfect role -
who doesn't like David Morse and how about the few cameos of Harold
Russell (The
Best Years of Our Lives). I loved seeing this again - it has
such a good balance - never being cloying or too melodramatic. Just the
lives of a loyal group of friends - each with their own failings. It's a film I am very happy
to own on Blu-ray
with the new interviews.
An easy recommendation!
