ADDITION: Kino Blu-ray (March 2020): Kino have transferred theatrical film spin-offs of the popular 70's TV series; Sweeney! and Sweeney 2 to Blu-ray. It was shot in 35mm and looks quite good in 1080P. Sweeney! is in the original 1.66:1 and Sweeney 2 is in the 1.78:1 aspect ratio. They are shared on a dual-layered disc with supportive bitrates. There is pleasing detail in the close-ups, richness in the colors and frequent depth - especially in outdoor sequences. Looks good in-motion with infrequent, frame-specific damage (see last capture.)

On their Blu-ray, Kino use a DTS-HD Master 2.0 channel track (16-bit) in the original English language. The dialogue has some realistic scattering adding to a vérité expression and there are respective scores by Denis King (Goodbye Gemini, Satan's Harvest) and Tony Hatch (collaborations with Petula Clark), exported with some depth in the lossless. Kino offer optional English subtitles on their Region 'A' Blu-ray.

The Kino Blu-ray offers full audio commentaries for both SWEENEY and SWEENEY 2 by film critic and author Simon Abrams (Guillermo del Toro's The Devil's Backbone) and discusses comparisons to the TV series, what the producers and writers intentions were, how The French Connection was influential - real life manifestations vs. dramatizations, EMI Films, censorship, shooting in Malta etc. He reads from some interesting texts about each film and those behind it, laughing at anecdotes while sipping his double espresso... There is also a theatrical trailer for Sweeney! and a few other films.

Sweeney! and Sweeney 2 are excellent grass-roots cop dramas. They have a Get Carter UK appeal with equal parts neo-noir and nihilism. Great to have them as a double feature on a lone Blu-ray. The commentaries certainly add value and this is an easy recommendation for those keen on the genre!
