Sweeney! - When the sexy mistress of a cabinet minister is found dead of an apparent overdose, Detective Inspector Jack Regan (John Thaw) and Detective Sergeant George Carter (Dennis Waterman) shake off the booze and women to take on the case. But when the bullet-riddled bodies start to pile up in the London streets, Regan and Carter find themselves bollocks-deep in a murderous conspiracy involving doomed prostitutes, machine-gun assassins, multi-national oil companies and a cold-blooded bureaucrat who may be above the law. Barry Foster (Frenzy) and Ian Bannen (The Offence) co-star in this smash feature film that took all the hard-hitting thrills of television’s The Sweeney and blasted it onto cinema screens like never before.
Sweeney 2 - Britain’s Toughest Cops Are Back and Tougher Than Ever! When the Chief of the Flying Squad is nicked on corruption charges, he makes one last official request of D.I. Jack Regan (John Thaw) and D.S. George Carter (Dennis Waterman): take down a ruthless crew of highly skilled and heavily armed bank robbers terrorizing London. But as the gang’s getaways become increasingly violent, Regan and Carter must tangle with crooked cops, beautiful women, a mad bomber, the government of Malta, and a final raid that becomes a desperate shotgun massacre. The great Denholm Elliott (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and Ken Hutchison (Ladyhawke) co-star in this second gritty feature film based on the roughest, toughest and most politically incorrect crime series in TV history. |

Review: Kino - Region 'A' - Blu-ray
Comments: |
NOTE:
The below
Blu-ray
captures were taken directly from the
Blu-ray
disc.
On their
Blu-ray,
Kino use a DTS-HD Master 2.0 channel track (16-bit) in the original English
language. The dialogue has some realistic scattering adding to a vérité
expression and there are respective scores by Denis King (Goodbye
Gemini, Satan's Harvest) and Tony Hatch (collaborations with
Petula Clark), exported with some depth in the lossless. Kino offer optional English
subtitles on their Region 'A'
Blu-ray.
The Kino
Blu-ray
offers
Sweeney! and Sweeney 2
are excellent grass-roots cop dramas. They have a
Get Carter UK appeal with equal parts neo-noir and
nihilism. Great to have them as a double feature on a lone Blu-ray.
The commentaries certainly add value and this is an easy recommendation
for those keen on the genre! |
