The Series: "The Twilight Zone" is unquestionably one of the greatest science fiction television shows of all time. Generally speaking, most episodes had strong elements of deeply imagined science, suspense and thought-provoking intrigue. Creator Serling had a unique and distinctive approach to the central themes of the show(s)... and it was a hit, right from its onset. A virtual spring board for many young and talented actors/actresses the original Twilight Zone has run successfully in syndication ever since. Most everyone has a favorite episode. For me The Twilight Zone original series represents pioneering television with a strong nostalgic and noirish-ly dark feel to it. out ofGary W. Tooze

NOTE:
The below
Blu-ray
captures were taken directly from the
Blu-ray
disc. Episodes range from about 4.0 - 5.5 Gig in size - yes, like Season One and Season Two they are in 1080P but the video bitrates are a bit lower at around 15 Mbps. There are instances of noise, a few speckles and compression artifacts but generally look impressive. Unlike Season Two I didn't see any that were taped on video. All 37 episodes are consistent with strong grayscale. Perhaps contrast is a shade visually superior to the Season one Blu-ray and equivalent or a small notch below Season Two. The transfers occasionally show some nice grain and there is no chroma evident. There are 5 dual-layered disc in the set with 7-8 episodes per Blu-ray.

Audio : Same as the previous seasons on Blu-ray - audio offers a choice of original or restored. There is linear PCM (lossless) available and while the DVDs sounded tinny - this is clear and quite consistent showing some perceived depth but no range. It's a nice bonus being able to hear the isolated scores - especially the Bernard Herrmann ones! Like the previous - the subtitle font used is larger and higher up on the screen (see sample above) than usual but I do appreciate them being positioned under the speaker (like Universal does). They are English SDH only. My Momitsu has identified the package as containing all region 'A'-locked discs - as we expected.
Extras :Frankly, I've only sampled some of the 19 included commentaries - and skimmed the Tell It to Groucho and Liar’s Club shows. Plus there is even more with interviews, an original Laugh Track (for Cavender Is Coming), vintage audio interviews, 19 Radio Dramas, remake clips etc. It's stuff I like to investigate over time - but like the past 2 seasons on Blu-ray - it is, undeniably, stacked.
BOTTOM LINE:
Now, I know that some Blu-ray players had trouble with Season One that I didn't - and I expect this fault is 'fixed' as Image Entertainment don't want a bunch of returns again. Twilight Zone Season 3 looks and sound fabulous offering an unheard of amount of extra features. This classic TV show in 1080P is absolutely recommended!!

About the Reviewer: Hello, fellow Beavers! I have been interested in film since I viewed a Chaplin festival on PBS when I was around 9 years old. I credit DVD with expanding my horizons to fill an almost ravenous desire to seek out new film experiences. I currently own approximately 9500 DVDs and have reviewed over 3500 myself. I appreciate my discussion Listserv for furthering my film education and inspiring me to continue running DVDBeaver. Plus a healthy thanks to those who donate and use our Amazon links.
Although I never wanted to become one of those guys who
focused 'too much' on image and sound quality - I
find HD is swiftly pushing me in that direction. So be
it, but film will always be my first love and I list my
favorites on the old YMdb site now accessible
