NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc. ADDITION: Mill Creek - Region 'A' - Blu-ray October 18':Firstly, the Sony William Castle DVD Boxset was fully reviewed HERE. While it's a good set the video of this William Castle Double Feature: 13 Ghosts / 13 Frightened Girls Blu-ray - exactly like the William Castle Double Feature - Homicidal & Mr. Sardonicus it advances in the way most have come to expect from the higher resolution. Mill Creek's 2016 Blu-ray video transfer is very nice - the two features share a dual-layered Blu-ray disc supported with high bitrates but only lossy Dolby audio - which seems an unfortunate oversight. There are no extras and no subtitle options. These are the same versions as the DVD set - with the same running times. Both HD images look about the same with pleasing quality in 1080P - both are 1.78:1 with decently layered contrast, fine grain, and an obviously tighter image than the SD renderings. Big bonus here, though, is the price at less than $8 US for the double-feature set however William Castle at Columbia Volume One Region FREE Blu-ray box is coming from Indicator in the UK and includes 13 Ghosts, The Tingler, Homicidal and Mr. Sardonicus with audio commentaries and many extras. Serious fans, willing to spend the extra dollars, should hold out for that package - which we will compare here. |
