NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Yellow Veil Pictures Blu-ray (April 20221): Yellow Veil Pictures have transferred Mattie Do's The Long Walk to Blu-ray. It is on a dual-layered disc and the, nearly, 2 hour film is transferred with a modest bitrate. Being a modern film in 1080P, shot on HD, it looks pristine and flawless. Blues are a less tight - some teal - and black levels can look pale at times. Detail is impressive in the film's many close-ups. It is in the 2.25:1 aspect ratio. Cinematography, by Matthew Macar, advances the film's stunning appearance. The film is filled with depth and the HD presentation is beautiful.

On their Blu-ray, Yellow Veil Pictures offers a robust DTS-HD Master 5.1 surround track track (24-bit) in the original Lao language or the option of a lossy Dolby stereo track. The Long Walk has few aggressive moments that come through with surprising depth and a few adroit separations making there way to the rear speakers. Mostly it is a passive film sound-wise with few effects. It has a score by Anthony Weeden, who has quite a few music department credits. It sounds subtle and excellent via the lossless transfer. Yellow Veil Pictures offer optional English or French subtitles on their Region 'A' Blu-ray.

The Yellow Veil Pictures Blu-ray offers a two commentaries. The first has director Mattie Do, producer Douangmany Soliphanh, actress Vilouna Phetmany (I think.) It is mostly in English with some Laotian (there are optional subtitles) and they talk about many production facets - hurdles circumvented in filming etc. and the discussion is quite laid-back and informative. The second commentary is by screenwriter C. Robert Cargill (Dr. Strange) and film producer David Lawson Jr. (The Darkness of the Road.) They are friends of the director Mattie Do and provide a casual discussion on the merits of the film, clever use of lighting, how timelines are colored slightly differently, the pure cinematic storytelling etc. I found it very educational and it certainly advanced my appreciation. There is also a 52-minute Zoom Q + A hosted by Alexandre Hella Nicholas (author of many books including Women Make Horror: Filmmaking, Feminism, Genre) with the director, Mattie Do, and many individuals, supportively, jumping into the remote chat. It was recorded in 2020. I thought it was a nice addition. Also included are four short deleted scenes with optional commentary, a trailer and the package has reversible cover artwork and 16-page liner notes booklet with photos and an essay by writer Shelagh Rowan-Legg.

Mattie Do's The Long Walk is quite a curious and brilliantly constructed film. It can be a intentionally scattered - non-linear (yes, time-travel!) - with a purposeful, rewarding ending. There is not a lot of dialogue - often being visually driven - and that aspect is, likewise, impressive. The Long Walk has a v้rit้ feel and is deliberately paced with a less conventional story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. A second viewing after the supplements can really shed some light on the strong themes of memory and the filmmaker's intentions. It's a fascinating viewing experience and I am thrilled to have seen The Long Walk thanks to the Yellow Veil Pictures Blu-ray. I really hope this gets more coverage as it is totally deserved. Strongly recommended!
