BIG THANKS!: DVDBeaver would not exist without the support of many patrons - those who generously donate, and especially those who use our Amazon(s), Barnes & Noble, TCM, Warner Archive and YesAsia links. That's it. When you go to Amazon - PLEASE use one of our links to get there (they are on every page - top and bottom - and we have 5000 webpages). It costs you absolutely nothing and we get a small commission on items you purchase. This helps pay our bills - in fact it's the only thing that pays our bills.
STRATEGIES: The best way to take full advantage of Amazon is to use...
PRE-ORDERs - lock in at the discount price by ORDERING - if perchance you decide against the purchase you have until the release date to cancel - at no charge AND if you will purchase more than 35 DVDs (or anything) in a 365 day period (and live in the Continental US) it makes excellent financial sense to subscribe to Amazon Prime

ONE VOICE (not Ellsworth Monkton Toohey): As previously stated, a pitifully slow week for reviews but I did LOVE all three editions covered this newsletter. The Man From Laramie is a classic Anthony Mann / Jimmy Stewart western and The Masters of Cinema group have delivered a super Blu-ray package. On DVD we have two Essential Noirs - and they are both wonderful; Kiss the Blood Off My Hands (what a title!) has Joan Fontaine and Burt Lancaster - a wholesome nurse turning a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. The Accused (1946) has Loretta Young, as psychology professor Wilma, accidentally murdering her would-be rapist and the intricate cat-and-mouse banter with forensic details as she attempts to evade the scrutiny of the authorities. Marvelous.

"Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.”

  THIS WEEK's REVIEWS / COMPARISONS

The Man From Laramie BD - Held by many to be the pinnacle of the five Westerns they were teamed on, The Man from Laramie marked the final collaboration between director Anthony Mann and star James Stewart. Stewart stars as a resolute vigilante, obsessed with finding the man responsible for his brothers death. Among the suspects are an arrogant cattle baron (Donald Crisp), his sadistic son (Alex Nicol) and his ranch foreman (Arthur Kennedy). A psychological revenge saga of Shakespearean proportions, and masterfully filmed in Cinemascope and Technicolor, The Man from Laramie is one of the most powerful dramas of the 1950s. Masters of Cinema Blu-ray Release Date: December 5th, 2016

Kiss the Blood Off My Hands - Joan Fontaine and Burt Lancaster star in Kiss the Blood off My Hands, a classic film noir about fate and love amongst the most unlikely individuals. Former P.O.W Bill Saunders (Lancaster) is living in England and scarred with unstable and violent tendencies. After killing a man in a bar fight, he flees the scene and manages to find cover in the home of Nurse Jane Wharton (Fontaine) who agrees to take him in and believes his version of the story being an accident. Now in love, nurse Warton tries to secure Saunders a job delivering medical supplies after being released from prison after serving time for fighting with a police officer. Things take a turn, however, when a racketeer (Robert Newton) who witnessed Saunders’ murder threatens to turn him into the police unless he agrees to assist in a crime. DVD Release Date: September 28th, 2015

The Accused (1946) - When college student Bill (Douglas Dick) grows inappropriately fond of psychology professor Wilma (Loretta Young) and tries to rape her, she fights back. But as she defends herself, she accidentally kills her attacker. Wilma then moves Bill's corpse to a nearby beach and makes his death look like the result of a cliff diving accident. But her guilt over the incident builds, and police Lt. Dorgan (Wendell Corey) begins to suspect that Wilma knows more about the death than she's letting on. DVD Release Date: September 28th, 2015
