ONE VOICE (not Ellsworth Monkton Toohey): It was a pleasure to revisit Olivier Assayas' Irma Vep - available on Blu-ray from Arrow; Maggie Cheung, Jean-Pierre Léaud influenced by the dark Paris shadows of Louis Feuillade! Arnold Fanck's silent epic The Holy Mountain Leni Riefenstahl comes to Blu-ray thanks to Kino. What visuals! I can never get enough of Jennifer Jones on Blu-ray and Ruby Gentry also has strong performances from Charlton Heston and Karl Malden. Love those 1080P shadows. Gabriel Mascaro's Neon Bull is an earthy, poetic, art film that is part of Second Run's strong Region FREE Blu-ray package. Fred Schepisi's 1978 Australian film The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith is powerful, deeply-layered cinema that is on Region FREE Blu-ray from Umbrella. I loved the philosophical fantasy of Basil Dearden's They Came to a City from Ealing Studios - now on Blu-ray from BFI. Arrow produce their Blu-ray of Jean-Luc Godard's politically-infused La Chinoise. Kino's Blu-ray of The Maze 3D offers some of the best of that vintage process and a wild, bizarre sci-fi horror gem. Inventive and fun! I enjoyed the noir-ish 50's crime-thriller elements of Paul Henreid's A Woman's Devotion looking gorgeous on 4K-restored Blu-ray via Kino, who also bring us a pair of Trucolor Republic westerns; Singing Guns and Trigger Jr. with commentaries for both, Sold! Legendary Silent icon Gloria Swanson battles the trials of the big city in Manhandled - now on Blu-ray with commentary. Maximillian is an Austrian mini-series on Blu-ray dealing with alliances and conflicts among the dynastic noble families of the Middle Ages. Straight Talk is a "Working-Girl" styled flic with Dolly Parton's music and charm. It's pretty fun and now on Blu-ray. DVD coverage next week... or the week after. 'Pick up a camera. Shoot something. 	Straight Talk BD - When down-on-her-luck country girl Shirlee Kenyon (Dolly Parton) walks through the wrong door at the right time, she accidentally becomes Chicago's newest talk radio celebrity and turns the Windy City's hottest radio station upside down. Blu-ray Release Date: April 17th, 2018 Maximillian BD - The year is 1477, and while the barbarism of the Middle Ages is slowly giving way to humanism and order, there are still mercenaries and foot-soldiers and kings who soak the battlefields with their blood. Blu-ray Release Date: April 17th, 2018 The Maze 3D BD - The Maze is a 1953 atmospheric horror film in 3-D, directed by William Cameron Menzies and starring Richard Carlson as Scotsman Gerald MacTeam (Carlson) who abruptly breaks off his engagement to pretty Kitty Murray (Veronica Hurst) after receiving word of his uncle's death and inheriting a mysterious castle in the Scottish Highlands. Blu-ray Release Date: April 24th, 2018 Trigger Jr. BD - Roy Rogers and his Fabulous Western Show ride smackdab into a treacherous dispute between a group of ranchers and an evil Range Patrol. Blu-ray Release Date: April 17th, 2018 Singing Guns BD - Singing Guns casts Vaughn Monroe as western outlaw Rhiannon, who robs from the rich and keeps it. Rhiannon's particular target is a gold mine that he feels rightfully belongs to him. Blu-ray Release Date: April 17th, 2018 They Came to a City BD - Nine disparate Britons are transported to a mysterious city where, according to their class and disposition, they find themselves either in an earthly paradise of peace and equality or a hell starved of ambition and riches. Blu-ray Release Date: April 23rd, 2018 Manhandled BD - it tells the story of Tessie McGuire (Gloria Swanson), a down-on-her-luck salesgirl who climbs the social ladder by pretending to be a Russian countess. Blu-ray Release Date: April 10th, 2018 Neon Bull BD - Balancing a provocative realism with improvisational drama, Neon Bull is a celebration of its characters and their everyday lives as well as their obstinate capacity to dream. It explores the lives of its protagonists in evocative tableaux of fierce, funny, sweaty intimacy which lyrically subverts its macho domain. Blu-ray Release Date: April 16th, 2018 The Holy Mountain (1926) BD - Dr. Arnold Fanck (1889-1974) can be viewed as a significant pioneer of independent filmmaking and his film, The Holy Mountain (1926), as a landmark entry in the Bergfilme genre. Blu-ray Release Date: April 24th, 2018 A Woman's Devotion BD - Trevor Stevenson, a well-known painter and highly decorated WWII hero, and his new bride Stella travel to Acapulco for their honeymoon. Soon young women are turning up dead in the area and Trevor who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, is accused of the murders. He believes he may be responsible, since he has long stretches of amnesia where he can't remember anything. Blu-ray Release Date: March 13th, 2018 Irma Vep BD - Irma Vep is Assayas at his lightest and most playful simultaneously a gently satirical dig at the state of French cinema and a love letter to his female star. Blu-ray Release Date: April 24th, 2018 Ruby Gentry BD - As has been noted, King Vidor has taken full advantage of the misty swampland; of the rough-hewn hunting lodge kept by Ruby's people and of the prevalent caste system whose mellifluous accents cannot hide its implacable differences. But these, after all, are secondary characteristics. "Ruby Gentry" is purveying pure, old-fashioned passion, corny and uncut, and she doesn't care who knows it. Blu-ray Release Date: April 24th, 2018 The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith BD - Fred Schepisi's internationally acclaimed masterpiece based on the novel by Thomas Keneally is the shocking tale of an indigenous man driven to madness and revenge. Umbrella Blu-ray Release Date: March, 2018 La Chinoise BD - Perhaps Godard's most political film, "La Chinoise" is also Godard at his most primitive in terms of filmmaking and his most extreme in terms of mise-en-scene.
