France 1969

The young Chabrol introduces the viewer into the daily life of the female school teacher that becomes us : so we gently search for affection and empathy, we discover the gentleness of a mute character and beyond the horror is waiting. Or is it the gentleness that lies beyond horror?

Comments
The image is similar to Les Biches (anamorphic, grainy, with marks here and there (including cigarette burns - see the third capture), but overall pretty clean. There were more marks on this film than Les Biches, but they are not distracting. Colors are washed out. French sound is very good, much better than English and Spanish dubs. No complaints here (at first, there were rumors that this will be dubbed and pan-n-scanned only). The commentary is similar to Les Biches, but with more silences, this time with 2 screen writers I know nothing about.  Short gallery and non-anamorphic trailer (in French) round off the disc.
