(aka "The Double Life of Jenny Logan")

Directed by Frank De Felitta
USA 1979

After moving into an old Victorian house with her husband, Jennie Logan (Lindsay Wagner) finds an antique dress in the attic-and discovers it has the power to transport her to another era. But as she continues using the garment to revisit the past, Jennie finds herself falling in love with another man-and another world. With Alan Feinstein, Marc Singer, Linda Gray.

***

Jennie Logan discovers an antique dress in her attic that allows her to travel back in time. Soon she's torn between life with her philandering husband and a romance with a handsome artist who was murdered at the turn of the century.

***

Hoping to repair their marriage, Jennie Logan and her husband move into a beautiful Victorian manor. When Jennie tries on an antique dress she finds in the attic, she is transported back one hundred years, where she meets the house's previous owner, David. As her feelings for David grow, it becomes clear that Jennie is not only torn between two men and two times, but she also faces danger in both worlds.

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Scorpion / Kino Blu-ray (July 2021): The new Scorpion / Kino Blu-ray of The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan is almost an identical 1080P presentation to the Imprint from earlier this year. The US Blu-ray may be slightly brighter and, if forced, would give the overall image quality to the Imprint but for most it will be too negligible to make issue.

Same deal with the audio - both 24-bit lossless and both have optional English subtitles. The Scorpion / Kino Blu-ray is however region 'A'-locked.

There are only trailers as supplements on the Scorpion / Kino Blu-ray. So, if they are important to you (commentary etc.), then the Imprint is the one to get.

Certainly a film more suited to my sister -  nostalgia for The Bionic Woman (Lindsay Wagner) - a romantic effort with the 'ghost/supernatural/Gothic/tear-jerker' presence. To be honest, I kinda liked it too... some 70s TV has a real pull if you recall any of it when you were a child. The bare-bones Scorpion / Kino Blu-ray is the significantly more reasonable of the two  - it is nice to have the option.

ADDITION: Imprint Blu-ray (May 2021): Imprint have transferred Frank De Felitta's The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan to Blu-ray. It was a popular Television Movie broadcast in 1.33:1. It looks better than I anticipated from the opening title. The image is on a dual-[layered disc with a high bitrate and detail is strong, colors true and there is some depth. It appears to have been shot on 35mm (although video-tape would have been cheaper) and is a significant bump over the other digital editions (some cropped to widescreen) that have been seen - even on YouTube (see sample comparison below.) The film has a nostalgic following and this 1080P better than seeing the film on a Sony Tube back in the late 70's.

On their Blu-ray, Imprint use a linear PCM dual-mono track (24-bit) in the original English language. It sounds clear without flaw but hardly dynamic, although to be fair the TV movie doesn't have a substantial or aggressive soundstage. There is a varied score by Glenn Paxton (De Felitta's Dark Night of the Scarecrow), also offered as an isolated option along with the film's effects. Imprint offer optional English subtitles on their Region FREE Blu-ray.

The Imprint Blu-ray offers a new commentary by Film Critic Kevin Lyons, editor of 'The Encyclopedia of Fantastic Film and Television'. He thoroughly discusses the cast and crew identifying the relationship between Linda Gray and Lindsay Wagner (niece by marriage), extensive details on writer/director Frank De Felitta, referencing reviews of The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan and the, often marginalized, TV Movie era when this was made, plus finding Gloria Stuart (The Kiss Before the Mirror, 1932's The Old Dark House) at the end (7-seconds worth) and much more. He speaks at a relaxed pace and has researched the production quite thoroughly. Also included is TV trailer and a limited edition slipcase.

Wholesome Lindsay Wagner is perfect in The Two Worlds of Jennie Logan. It rises above more schmaltzy, soapy, TV movies, but many won't appreciate the superiority. Frank De Felitta (writer for Robert Wise's Audrey Rose and author of the book based on The Entity) made a very watchable, romantic film with the 'ghost/supernatural/Gothic/tear-jerker' angle. Certainly suitable for a Mother/young-daughter viewing (with studly Marc Singer with his shirt off.) This 'small-screen' effort doesn't seem worthy of Imprint's (and Kino's) Blu-ray status but there is a niche/cult that will adore its improved a/v and the detailed Lyons commentary. To that group this is recommended!
