The Female Bunch: After a string of bad times with men, Sandy tries to kill herself. Co-waitress Libby saves her and takes her to meet some female friends of hers who live on a ranch in the desert. Grace, the leader of the gang, puts Sandy through her initiation and they get on with the real job of running drugs across the Mexican border, hassling poor farmers, taking any man they please, and generally raising a little hell. Soon Sandy becomes unsure if this is the life for her, but it may be too late to get out.

ADDITION: Severin Blu-ray (May 2020): In preparation for their massive Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection Boxset, release in June, 2020 - Severin have whet fan's whistle with, what I believe is the first disc of that set - Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life & Ghastly Death of Al Adamson that has the 1 3/4 hour documentary plus Al's 1971 grindhouse classic The Female Bunch sharing the same dual-layered Blu-ray. This is a great marketing ploy as the David Gregory's 2019 documentary is fabulous and certainly raises the level of anticipation for the Blu-ray boxset. A text screen states "THE FEMALE BUNCH WAS SCANNED AND RESTORED FROM SEVERAL FADED 35MM RELEASE PRINTS OF VARYING PHYSICAL CONDITION. THE NEGATIVE IS BELIEVED LOST. EVERY EFFORT WAS MADE TO USE THE LEAST DAMAGED SECTIONS OF EACH PRINT TO ENSURE THE BEST POSSIBLE IMAGE QUALITY THROUGHOUT. "

On their Blu-ray, Severin use a DTS-HD Master tracks (24-bit for the documentary and 16 bit for the feature) in the original English language. The documentary has a superfluous surround option and The Female Bunch feature also includes optional Spanish and German DUBs. Severin offer optional English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese subtitles on their Blood & Flesh documentary and optional English on the 1971 feature. The disc is a Region FREE Blu-ray.

The Severin Blu-ray offers 20-minutes worth of 4 scene outtakes; The Cowboy Life of Denver Dixon, Russ Tamblyn's Melted TV, Manson & Screaming Angels and The Prophetic Screenplay Makes Gary Kent Testify. A text screen states "DUE TO DAMAGE IN THE VARIOUS FADED 35MM RELEASE PRINT ELEMENTS USED FOR CREATING THE FEATURE MASTER, SOME SEQUENCES WERE MISSING SHOTS. THE FOLLOWING IS A COMPILATION OF THOSE SEQUENCES WITH THE EXTRA FOOTAGE INCLUDED, SOURCED FROM A VHS TAPE." There is a 3-minute Beyond This Earth promo reel, trailer plus, associated with The Female Bunch portion of the disc, we get a frank 1/4 hour The Female Bunch Speaks Out featurette with some of the ladies sharing their experience of working on the film and opinions on Al. Plus there are 2-minutes of extended Scenes and a handful of trailers.

Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life & Ghastly Death of Al Adamson fills in many holes I had in terms of details about the director's life... and death - that seemed to surface in extravagant rumors over the years - absolutely fascinating! If the other 32-films are as appealing as The Female Bunch then the Severin Blu-ray boxset will easily make our top of the year list. People who appreciate this brand of cinema should be in nirvana with the Al Adamson: The Masterpiece Collection Boxset. It is pure exploitation, fun, wild inhibition, creative celluloid economics and the epitome of 'so bad it's good' film cycles that we adore. This boxset is 'it', folks.
