(aka "Anomalo fortio" or "Dangerous Cargo" or "An Abnormal Load")

Directed by Kostas Karagiannis
Greece 1977

In this wild and rarely seen example of Greek exploitation cinema, Deborah Shelton - former Miss USA and star of TV's DALLAS - plays the wife of a ship's captain whose vessel is taken over by pirates. After her husband is brutally killed she is alone with a crew of rough, tough seafarers. When the pirate leader takes an interest in her she has to use all her cunning and skills - not to mention her sexuality - to stay alive and take revenge for the murder of her husband.

The film is a tense and brutal story of lust and treachery on the high seas. Set entirely on a huge ship carrying an illegal cargo of dangerous nitro-glycerine, the film racks up the tension to almost unbearable levels as cross and counter cross take place among the warring parties. When a powerful cyclone threatens to sink the ship and kill all aboard, the former enemies must collaborate to save themselves. Directed by Kostas Karagiannis, the crazed genius behind such films as THE WIFE KILLER and TANGO OF PERVERSION, DANGEROUS CARGO is exploitation cinema at its finest. Deborah Shelton, in her raunchiest role ever, is by turns scared, seductive and scheming as she takes control of the situation and springs more than a few surprises for the viewer.

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Mondo Macabro Blu-ray (March 2020): Mondo Macabro have transferred the odd crime-drama exploitation film, 1977's, Dangerous Cargo (Anomalo fortio) produced out of Greece,  to Blu-ray. Even more bizarre is that it stars Deborah Shelton - former Miss USA (although described in the opening credits as "Miss America") and immensely recognizable by film fans for her role in Brian De Palma's Body Double, where, incidentally, her dialogue was dubbed by actress Helen Shaver. This Blu-ray is in the unusual 1.40:1 aspect ratio and while looking better than SD, still has some waxiness and isn't much of a 1080P image (which is actually quite suitable to the film's other poor qualities.)

On their Blu-ray, Mondo Macabro have only a lossy Dolby track in the original Greek language, sounding unremarkable with more DUB'ing for Deborah. The score is by a 'Giorgos Theodosiadis' and it appears as though he has composed for similar genre films. Mondo Macabro offer optional English subtitles (see sample) on their Region FREE Blu-ray.

The Mondo Blu-ray offers no supplements relevant to the film and only 11-minutes of their cool Mondo Macabro previews.

So, what the heck? Deborah Shelton really took a step back with Dangerous Cargo. It's a poorly shot, edited and scripted film with the only redeeming feature being her beautiful green eyes. This really is exploitive as the former Miss USA is frequently totally naked, sexually assaulted in two scenes and visibly having intercourse akin to non-graphic pornography. Very weird - you have to wonder how this all came to fruition - this is where Mondo Macabro could have added some explanations / supplements / discussion. Their Blu-ray has the appeal of shock-value but that's about it. Deborah Shelton is obviously incredibly attractive but her nudity is amateurishly shot and not particularly erotic although it's mere existence would satisfy some curious niche of fans, as it, frankly, did for me.
