Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Paramount Blu-ray (February 2020): Paramount have transferred the new (2019) First Season of The Twilight Zone to Blu-ray. All ten episodes are in the original 1.78:1 aspect ratio and run around 50-minutes each. The HD image quality is pristine - as might be expected from a modern series. The last two (of five) Blu-rays have all 10 episodes in black and white. As with Frank Darabont's The Mist, I prefer the black + white visuals and appreciate the option. The effects here are restrained, still impressive but not extravagant and they don't over-indulge. The 1080P (and it is 1080P) image is brilliant. The color is true, the detail sharp and there is plenty of depth - the contrast on the black and white episodes looked great on my system.

On their Blu-ray, Paramount use a DTS-HD Master 5.1 surround track (only 16-bit) in the original English language. There are, of course, effects that export separation and the score by Marco Beltrami (A Quiet Place, The Hurt Locker, 3:10 to Yuma, Snowpiercer, In the Electric Mist etc.) and Brandon Roberts (World War Z, 2011's The Thing) with rifts from the original theme. It sounds great - crisp, clean with plenty of depth. Paramount offer optional English subtitles on their Region FREE Blu-ray.

The Paramount Blu-ray offers supplements for every episode including audio commentaries for “Replay”, “Not All Men”, and “Blurryman” (Alex Rubens and Audrey Chon etc.). There are Gag reels, Deleted scenes, a full-length version of music video from “The Wunderkind” episode, plenty of individual episodes and a season promo, "Opening the Door..." featurettes for a few episodes. But the big extras are a 37-minute “REMEMBERING ROD SERLING” new documentary that takes viewers on a journey into the fertile imagination and the life of The Twilight Zone creator, Rod Serling, his career, influences and accomplishments. Also included at over an hour, is a two part, in-depth documentary “CROSSING OVER: LIVING IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE” that chronicles the development and production of Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg’s modern take on the classic anthology series. It has a lot of behind the scenes footage and input from cast and crew. There is also the aforementioned all 10 episodes in black and white on Blu-rays 4 and 5 but there are no commentaries or extras (well, I think I saw a promo stuck in there).

At DVDBeaver we loved the original The Twilight Zone and, like many, were excited that a new series was being produced. For many it may underwhelm - especially if you think you are simply getting a re-boot of the early 60's series. Ex. one of the most famous of the old series was Nightmare at 20,000 Feet where Robert Wilson (played by William Shatner) sees a gremlin on the wing, mid-flight, and can't get anyone to believe him. This is totally different than the modern series episode entitled Nightmare at 30,000 Feet where a journalist (played by Adam Scott) finds an MP3 player with a true crime podcast that details how the airplane that he is currently travelling on will disappear. So, these are more modern - in terms of plot dynamics and I thought it worthy enough that I will indulge in the second season. This stacked 5-disc Blu-ray package has plenty to enjoy, for a long time, and I enjoyed watching all ten episodes in black and white. Recommended to fans of the previous series, just keep nostalgia hopes in-check and be prepared for political Liberal undertones.
