(aka "Alien Prey" )

directed by Norman J. Warren

UK 1977

An alien craft carrying a being with fox-like features has landed in the middle of rural England. After brutally murdering a young couple, the being animates himself into the body of the man he killed, adopting the name Anders. Upon being discovered by a reclusive lesbian couple, who mistake him for an injured drifter, they invite him to recover in their isolated home, unaware of his innate bloodlust...

While ostensibly a science fiction film, Norman J. Warren's PREY is a brooding study in sexual desire and loneliness, punctuated by shocking violence and suspense. Equal parts bloody and erotic, Vinegar Syndrome presents this masterpiece of British horror on Blu-ray, in a brand new, director approved restoration from its 35mm negative, and fully uncut for the first time since its 80s VHS release.

ADDITION: Vinegar Syndrome - Region FREE - Blu-ray (February 2018):

Vinegar Syndrome's new Blu-ray is advertised as 'newly scanned and restored in 2k from 35mm original camera negative'. The image quality towers above the older DVDs looking far sharper, less damage, warmer skin tones and more information on the side edges of the 1.66:1 frame. Colors are deeper and richer and the 1080P is another huge bump in video quality - thanks to Vinegar Syndrome!

Vinegar Syndrome transfer the audio in a faithful DTS-HD Master mono track (24-bit) and it sounds, reasonably clean with the production limitations in tact. The score is credited to Ivor Slaney (Death Ship, Paid to Kill, Terror Street, Bad Blonde, Gambler and the Lady) and it sounds clean and atmospheric. It's an interesting soundtrack - also available on CD HERE. There are optional English SDH subtitles are also provided (see sample below) on the Region FREE Blu-ray disc.

There is new commentary track with Norman J. Warren and Sally Faulkner and has relevancy for those keen on the production. 'Directing the Prey' is a 22-minute interview with director Norman J. Warren, 'Becoming the Prey' is 1 14-minute interview with actress Sally Faulkner and 'Producing the Prey' spends 7-minutes with producer Terry Marcel. There is also a theatrical trailer and the package has a reversible cover and second disc DVD.

I enjoyed this... very creepy, fantastical, sci-fi horror. It's hard not to have some interest in a premise like this; "The day after a weird green light is seen in the English sky, a strange young man stops at the country home of two lesbian housemates. It turns out that the man is an alien, and a hungry one."  Vinegar Syndrome continue to bring to the surface these, wrong-side-of-the-tracks, niche genre, films from the 70's and 80's.  The Prey
Blu-ray transfer is dramatically superior to the old SDs. The extras also offer the commentary and three salient interviews. There ism surprisingly, good value here with this film. Don't be afraid to indulge.
