Directed by Joe D'Amato
Italy 1977

Emanuelle (Laura Gemser) is a fearless photo journalist and fashion photographer who travels the world in search of the exotic, the erotic and the downright deadly. Never averse to shedding her clothes in pursuit of a good story, Emanuelle arrives in America with a mission to expose the sizzling inner secrets of the jet set at play.

***

Laura Gemser is back as everyone's favorite sexually active photographer, but the operative name here is not "Emmanuelle," it is "Emanuelle." (The Italian entries in this series purportedly changed the spelling of the first name to avoid lawsuits).

Theatrical Release: January 5th, 1977

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

ADDITION: Mondo Macabro Region FREE Blu-ray (December 2019): Mondo Macabro have transferred another Emanuelle (or 'Emmanuelle') 70's sex romp to Blu-ray. Emanuelle in America is on a dual-layered disc with a very high bitrate and the 1080P image is distinguished by prevalent grain. It is described as being from a "4k transfer from film negative". It looks very pleasing and consistent in HD.

On their Blu-ray, Mondo Macabro use DTS-HD Master 2.0 channel tracks (16-bit) in the both English and Italian language options. People may like the score by Nico Fidenco (Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals, Emanuelle and the White Slave Trade, Emanuelle in Bangkok etc.)  sounding authentically weak in the high end (a bit tinny) but dialogue is clear, if DUBs being noticeable, in the lossless. Mondo Macabro offer optional English subtitles on their Region FREE Blu-ray.

Mondo include an audio commentary by Bruce Holecheck and Nathaniel Thompson (author of The International Guide to Weird and Wonderful Films series) who detail the bizarre circumstances regarding the film's writing by Maria Pia Fusco (Tinto Brass' "Salon Kitty") and how the film is not simply some soft-core fluff and much more. It's great to hear people who really know their sh*t. There is a 35-minute interview with writer David Flint entitled From Two M's to One and an hour-long documentary on Joe d'Amato in Italian with optional English subtitles. The director traces his career with clips from his films. Some may find it interesting. There is also a Mondo trailer reel (love their theme!).

This is described as a "WARNING! This is Emanuelle's Most Infamous Adventure. For Adults Only!" and they aren't kidding - we go from masturbating a horse, to hardcore, close-up penetration to more disgusting content. If you wanted some nostalgic 70's T+A with exotic Ms. Gemser (which is still there)... well you may be surprised at the graphic-ness of the additional content.  It's certainly not a film for everyone, but the adventurous will appreciate this Blu-ray, with commentary, documentary and more. Beware the disturbing graphic content at the conclusion.
