NOTE: These Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.
ADDITION: Disney - Region FREE - Blu-ray (June 2015): Firstly, I can't speak to the other (European and Japanese) BD versions although I suspect they look as good - but may have different audio/sub options. I also don't believe that they are region FREE as this Disney BD is.
The higher resolution image presentation blows away the DVDs looking significantly brighter and more vibrant. Purists will appreciate that the Japanese-language track is included although once again I believe we get 'dubtitles' as the subtitle translation. Extras mimic the 2003 Buena Vista SD (and the DVD IS included.) It's all about the a/v and once seen this way makes it impossible to return to the, otherwise impressive, DVDs. A hypnotic image and my kids were mesmerized! *** ON THE DVDs: ADDITION Oct 31st, 2003 (ADDITION OF THE REGION 4) :
Paul says: Not having seen either
of the other region discs, I have to say during normal non-critical watching
the Region 4 version is a beautiful picture, with deep blacks and excellent
colour clarity. I watched the Yubaba segment on my TV a few times with a
critical eye and did notice the slight compression, but if you were to watch
normally I doubt you'd notice anything. -Kevin Yip |

NOTE FROM KEVIN: On the screenshot comparison of Yubaba breathing flames onto Haku, Paul's Region 4 capture shows a lot more of what look like compression artifacts (especially on Yubaba's hair) than the other 2 captures.
