(aka "Beach Babes from Beyond 2" )

directed by David DeCoteau
USA 1996

The spoiled space babes of BEACH BABES FROM BEYOND Xena (Sarah Bellomo, BIKINI DRIVE-IN), Luna (FEMALIEN's Stephanie Hudson replacing Tamara Landry), and Sola (REVENGE OF THE CALENDER GIRLS' Tina Hollimon replacing Nicole Posey) have their journey home derailed and they crash land once again on Earth. This time, however, it is an island full of primitive babes and studs as well as dinosaurs via a time-warp. The island is ruled by alien James T. Renford the 2nd (Lenny Rose, PUPPET MASTER III) who sees dollar signs and a theme park attraction in the space babes. I felt that the storyline of the first film was the bare minimum to string together a series of softcore sex scenes, but the execution of the "plot" of BEACH BABES 2 is even flimsier and the sex scenes surprisingly even more explicit (although still softcore) in its unrated version. Without the first film's entertaining/embarrassing "cameos" by the likes of Burt Ward, Joe Estevez, Jackie Stallone, Don Swayze, or even a scream queen like Linnea Quigley, the sex scenes are pretty much all this one has going for it. Recommended for those nostalgic for the days when the video store shelves were lined with unrated erotic thrillers and Cinemax was 100% beach bodies and silicone.

Comments

Although the running times of the R-rated and unrated versions on the 88 Films release suggest an NTSC-to-PAL conversion, I'm not sure in this case if it is because Full Moon didn't provide a PAL master or there never was one for this shot-on-film-finished-on-video production (the 66 minute running time for the previous UK release suggests that it is an entirely different cut, possibly pre-cut for BBFC submission). The running times of the two versions on the UK disc are identical because the R-rated version loops footage from other scenes (like the girls dancing on the beach) over the offending shots.

The 88 Films' disc of BEACH BABES FROM BEYOND was the R-rated version with the explicit scenes (in poorer quality) featured as extras. The explicit footage in the unrated version of the sequel are also of lesser quality than the rest of the feature so this may be a reconstruction. Whatever the case, the R-rated version is worthless and the unrated version is the one to get if you're curious after the first film. The only extras are trailers for other Full Moon releases but the two versions (two encodes with no branching) mean there was very little room for anything else.
