directed by David DeCoteau
USA 1993
While her parents are away, fashion maven Xena (Sarah Bellomo, BIKINI DRIVE-IN) who has just broken up with boyfriend Gonad (yeah, it's that kind of film) - steals the space equivalent of her Daddy's T-bird with her friends Luna (Tamara Landry, THE PAMELA PRINCIPLE) and Sola (Nicole Posey) and heads off to visit Beta 45 (actually planet Earth) in search of guys with a "big cranial capacity". They run out of fuel and decide to get data from the California locals (actually Mexico), including Dave (Michael Todd Davis) and Jerry (Ken Steadman, I LIKE TO PLAY GAMES) - out from the midwest and staying with Dave's Uncle Bud (Joe Estevez, SAN FRANPSYCHO) AKA surfing legend "The Big Cahones" - and stoner Ziggy (Michael Roddy). The remainder of the film spaces out their literally oily sexual encounters (cut to the bare minimum - pun intended - in the R-rated release version) between a cliche sex comedy subplot with the girls competing with unscrupulous bikini designer Sally (Linnea Quigley, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS) - and her slimy lawyer Hymen Hassler (Albert Andrukaitis), again it's that kind of film - in a busty model-filled "bikini open" contest judged by businessman Mr. Bum (Burt Ward, TV's BATMAN) in order to win a cash prize to prevent Uncle Bud from getting evicted from his beach shack (as well as seemingly endless - and I mean endless - beach montages that offer more bikinis than actual bare bodies). Don Swayze (POWDER BLUE) and Jackie Stallone play Zena's parents (I guess they couldn't get Frank for a role). The music includes some sub-par beach rock vocals as well as a recycled cue from the Full Moon production NETHERWORLD, but the film's few visual effects were provided by Fantasy II Film Effects (TERMINATOR 2). |

Never released on
DVD in the UK before, 88 Films' single-layer transfer features
an NTSC-PAL transfer. The older master was already marred by the
soft filtering of the beach exteriors, and the conversion makes
things softer. While the U.S. DVD probably features a better
image, the UK release does feature extended scenes from the
unrated version (never released on tape or disc, although
reportedly shown on pay-per-view cable) in a 16 minute extra.
The usual VideoZone making-of featurette and trailers round out
the package. |
