USA 2013
Five years after the seemingly escapist happy ending of THE FALLS, we learn that RJ (Nick Ferrucci, TANDEM HEARTS) and Chris (Benjamin Farmer, THE ROOMIES) capped off their road trip around the country by splitting up to tie up lose ends with their respective families. Things did not go according to plan and RJ never heard from Chris again despite sending several letters. While RJ maintains his religious beliefs, he considers himself "neither Mormon nor gentile" and has gone to college and taken a job at a magazine, and is in a relationship with Paul (Thomas Stroppel, BUCKSVILLE). Chris, on the other hand, under pressure from his father (Bruce Jennings) continued on in the church - dismissing his relationship with RJ as a phase - and has married Ellen (Hannah Barefoot) and had a child. The two are brought back together with the death of mutual friend Rodney (Brian Allard, UN-HUMAN), the pot-smoking Iraq vet who was the first to accept their relationship. RJ achieves no closure through his reunion with Chris (who it turns out is deeply troubled by seeing him again) and ends his relationship with Paul. In a move that is more than a little stalker-ish (despite his expressed and not unsubstantiated concern), RJ shows up in Salt Lake and on Chris' doorstep under the pretense of writing a story for his magazine. Chris is no longer able to suppress his feelings and is torn between living "honorably" or living honestly. When RJ realizes how much damage he has wrought on Chris' life, he may have to sacrifice his own happiness and face Ellen's feelings of betrayal and the anger of Chris' family head on. |

Breaking Glass's
dual-layer disc features a progressive, anamorphic transfer of
this HD production is framed to little effect at 2.00:1 (deleted
scenes look vertically stretched at 1.78:1 while the clips in
the behind the scenes featurette look a bit squat at 2.20:1).
The bitrate is middle-range due to the length of the film and
the extras (including roughly twenty minutes of bonus material
from THE FALLS,
the DVD of which only included a five minute behind-the-scenes
featurette and photo gallery), but the effect does not appear to
be detrimental. The 5.1 track is restrained, but some of the
soft-spoken dialogue could have been relooped or better balanced
with the music scoring. The disc includes closed captioning for
the feature only. |
