Turn out the lights, break out the pop-corn and soda (spill a bit a couple hours in advance so the floors will be sticky), and pop this disc in for a your very own grindhouse experience. Book a flight to Sweden with the SWEDISH FLY GIRLS to visit the "sex capital of the world" SWEDEN: HEAVEN AND HELL! While you're there, get an inside look at the SWEDISH WIFE EXCHANGE CLUB. Stop off in London to learn about the "new version of the good neighbor policy" in THE SWAPPERS. Or you can stay in the states and witness "the one moment that makes all women sisters under the skin" in THE FEMALE RESPONSE. See Veronica Lake brought slumming in her last feature FLESH FEAST! If you prefer bad-ass babes, then take a gander at the "super-bad, super-bodied" SUPER CHICK or the POLICE WOMEN ("tough enough for any man"), but watch out for the DEADLY CHINA DOLL ("she's on a manhunt, and she's a man-eater"). If you've got schizophrenic tendencies, then steer clear of SCHIZOID (aka A LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN) or risk being "torn to shreds by terror-madness" (although you could just as easily be set upon by the "clockwork canines" of THE DOBERMAN GANG). There's "no place to hide when THE DEAD ARE ALIVE," especially on THE NIGHT EVELYN CAME OUT OF THE GRAVE! If its Bigfoot action you're interested in, then take a tackle from the its Yeti furball cousin and utter a SHRIEK OF THE MUTILATED. If you're looking for a hit, better PANAMA RED ("the perfect smoke") than the violence-inducing BLUE SUNSHINE. These and thirty-nine more trailers make up the GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS 3 collection which features quite a few surprise rarities - in addition to the ones mentioned above - like an English-language trailer for LINDA (aka LORNA THE EXORCIST, the dub track of which only recently turned up as an additional option on the long-awaited DVD release), the Commonwealth United trailer for Umberto Lenzi's PARANOIA (originally titled ORGASMO, and not to be confused with Lenzi's A QUIET PLACE TO KILL which was originally titled PARANOIA), AIP's slick rape-revenge pic ACT OF VENGEANCE (the trailer is not included on MGM's MOD disc), the alternately titled trailer of Robert Hartford-Davis' THE FIEND titled BEWARE THE BRETHREN, Almi Cinema's INVASION OF THE FLESH HUNTERS (their R-rated reissue of Antonio Margheriti's CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE which they originally put out with an X-rating as CANNIBALS IN THE STREETS), among others.

Comments

Nucleus Films' dual-layer, anamorphic (aspect ratios vary from trailer to trailer) disc is stuffed with fifty-five trailers (over one hundred minutes), plus another fifty-or-so minutes of trailers representing the current and upcoming releases of Nucleus Films (including the as-yet-unannounced PLAYGIRLS AND THE VAMPIRE, DEAD OF NIGHT (DEATH DREAM), and CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY THINGS) and its erotic sub-label Naughty (including EROTIC PASSION/JUSTINE - with former royal hopeful Koo Stark - which has recently been passed uncut by the BBFC). Most of the trailers in this set are newly-transferred from 35mm and the image quality obviously varies from trailer to trailer, but there are some neat rarities here (including some which turned up on their respective DVD releases sourced from worn VHS recordings). The mono audio is fine throughout. As with the previous two volumes in the GRINDHOUSE TRAILER CLASSICS series, this compilation is primarily marketed as a party disc with the trailers as visual background under the music (Nucleus has thoughtfully provided optional English subtitles for all of the trailers (dialogue in the trailer is italicized, while the narration is not). Critic Kim Newman briefly introduces the set and then appears again in a fifteen-minute "guide to the grindhouse" (which informs viewers that Britain did indeed have grindhouses). A poster gallery rounds out the extras.
