NOTE: The Dark Past is compared to the Blu-ray edition HERE My recent DVD review of hostage thriller Blind Alley from Sony Pictures promised an eventual review of that film's remake, a noir take The Dark Past directed by Rudolph Maté. Unavailable in region 1, the film was released in Spain back in 2008 and here is a 2011 re-release of that disc from Sony Pictures. If you compare two reviews, you will notice I tried to match the captures between two version. As David Kalat noted in his article, HERE, comparing two films, they are almost shot-for-shot similar. Unfortunately, the DVD presentation is lackluster. The image is overly soft, with a greenish hue on some monitors. The audio is decent and the disc includes a Spanish dub as well as optional Portuguese subtitles. Hopefully a better presentation is coming from region 1 in the near future. |
