ADDITION: 88 Films Blu-ray (May 2025): 88 Films have transferred Serge Korber's Shut Up! I Love You! to Blu-ray. It is on a dual-layered disc with a max'ed out bitrate. The film’s bright, saturated palette - lush countryside greens, warm interior golds, and the glossy sheen of Fanny’s racing car - export vividly, with enhanced texture in costumes - although Brigitte Lahaie is totally naked through the entire film - and settings like Henri’s ornate villa. It has effective contrast and decent black levels, capturing the playful, sunlit aesthetic of the car chase and the softer, candlelit ambiance of indoor scenes. However, as with many low-budget 1980s genre films, inconsistencies exist. The film’s colorful aesthetic in 1080P, with minor print imperfections, is surprisingly strong for its genre roots.

On their Blu-ray, 88 Films use a linear PCM dual-mono track (24-bit) in the original French language. The sound design, with its funky/jazzy/disco-bouncey score (Roger Candy as Gégé Candy,) comical effects, and playful dialogue, amplifies the farce, creating a lively, if dated, atmosphere. The mono mix, typical of the era’s low-budget comedies, is functional but limited in dynamic range, prioritizing dialogue clarity over immersive soundscapes. The audio presentation of Shut Up! I Love You! enhances the film’s lighthearted vibe via in the uncompressed transfer. 88 Films offer optional English subtitles on their Region 'B' Blu-ray.

A new 17-minute interview with 69-year old Brigitte Lahaie is the only Blu-ray extra, offering insights from Lahaie, whose career spans softcore, hardcore, and mainstream roles. She discusses her career and experience on Shut Up, I Love You!, working with director Serge Korber, and her role as Ingrid. Lahaie’s polished professionalism ensures a focused discussion. Still a babe. The Blu-ray features exclusive artwork by Silver Ferox, a UK-based artist known for vibrant, retro-inspired designs.

Serge Korber's Shut Up! I Love You! is a quintessential French sex comedy, delivering a chaotic, lust-driven farce as Marco and Fanny navigate a countryside estate filled with eccentric, amorous women. Its plot thrives on absurd scenarios, mistaken identities, and Brigitte Lahaie’s (Jean Rollin's Fascination, The Night of the Hunted, Two Orphan Vampires) magnetic presence, offering escapist fun over narrative depth. Visually, the film embraces vibrant colors, lush settings, and provocative framing, though budget limitations may show. There are scenes of scantily clad characters (Lahaie totally naked throughout,) suggestive banter, and slapstick mishaps. For some Lahaie’s appeal and star power make it a fun diversion leaning into the era’s hedonistic zeitgeist. The 88 Films Blu-ray has strengths doing an admirable job for this sex comedy's modest roots. Fans may wish to indulge.
