TOOLBAR THE 'DVDBeaver Toolbar'! Give it a test drive! I've created a very simple toolbar for Film-Fans/DVD-o-philes/cinephiles. It embeds effortlessly within Internet Explorer 5.0+ (Windows Vista/XP/2000) and Firefox 1.0.1+ (Windows, Mac, Linux). It offers quick links to Searching both the Net (via Google) and DVDBeaver directly, Amazons, Asian etailors, Forums (Criterion, Home Theater, AVS, Rotten Tomatoes, Film Noir), IMDb, DVDBasen, Beaver links, Blu-ray information, Cinephile Blogs/Journals (Rosenbaum, Kehr, Acquarello etc.). What do you think? FOR MORE INFORMATION / AVAILABLE HERE *** (We can adjust this to suit popular opinion - on-the-fly - no re-install required!)

November 19th CONTEST - identify the clip on the CONTEST PAGE to win a brand new Arrow Blu-ray of Spirits of the Dead

BIG THANKS!: DVDBeaver would not exist without the support of many patrons - those who generously donate, and especially those who use our Amazon(s), CD Japan, HKFlix and YesAsia links. That's it. When you go to Amazon - PLEASE use one of our links to get there (they are on every page - top and bottom - and we have 5000 webpages). It costs you absolutely nothing and we get a small commission on items you purchase. This helps pay our bills - in fact it's the only thing that pays our bills.
STRATEGIES: The best way to take full advantage of Amazon is to use...
PRE-ORDERs - lock in at the discount price by ORDERING - if perchance you decide against the purchase you have until the release date to cancel - at no charge AND if you will purchase more than 35 DVDs (or anything) in a 365 day period (and live in the Continental US) it makes excellent financial sense to subscribe to Amazon
NOTE:_

If there are DVD titles you'd like us to cover - please feel free to recommend!

ONE VOICE (not Ellsworth Monkton Toohey): Finding Nemo is such a good film and wonderful looking and sounding Blu-ray. A bit surprising but I am also a fan of Carpenter's They Live - there are some under-the-surface themes and humor that make this worth re-visiting. The new Shout! Factory Blu-ray advances upon its Italian counterpart in every area. Olive Films give us two 1080P transfers of vintage films - Ramrod with Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake is an odd, but appealing, western and The Trap is an effective crime-drama stacked with strong performers like Richard Widmark, Lee J. Cobb, Earl Holliman, Lorne Greene and Tina Louise as the love interest. On DVD Eric covered Michael Haneke's The Castle and Lola Doillon's In Your Hands - both out of Artificial Eye in the UK.  Have a great week!

  THIS WEEK's REVIEWS / COMPARISONS

Finding Nemo BD - In the depths of the Great Barrier Reef, Marlin (Albert Brooks), an overly protective clownfish, embarks on a daring rescue mission when his beloved son, Nemo, gets scooped up by a diver. With his unforgettable friend Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) by his side, Marlin encounters an ocean full of memorable comedic characters on his momentous journey to find Nemo. Bring home the humor and heartfelt emotion of the epic adventure that captured the Academy Award for "Best Animated Feature Film" (2003). Blu-ray Release date: December 4th, 2012

Ramrod BD - Andre de Toth's bizarre Freudian western (1947, 94 min.) features Veronica Lake in drag and Joel McCrea as a fading phallic symbol (you thought the title was accidental?) performing a barely sublimated sadomasochistic ritual—she's a lady ranch owner who teams up with her foreman to put her chief competitor, her father, out of business. With Arleen Whelan, Preston Foster, and Charles Ruggles. Blu-ray Release date: November 20th, 2012

The Trap BD - After a ten-year hiatus, lawyer Ralph Anderson (Richard Widmark) returns to his hometown of Tula, California, where his father Lloyd (Carl Benton Reid) and brother Tippy (Earl Holliman) serve as the town's sheriff and deputy. Forced to represent a mob boss, Victor Massonetti (Lee J. Cobb), Ralph asks his father to look the other way while a local airfield is used to enable Massonetti to flee the country. A disgusted Lloyd agrees to help, but Tippy decides to go after the big cash reward. The stellar cast includes Tina Louise (Gilligan's Island) as Tippy's beautiful wife, Linda, who once was the love of Ralph's life and Lorne Greene (Bonanza) as Davis, Massonetti's right hand man. Art direction by the legendary Henry Bumstead (Vertigo), Cinematography by the great Daniel L. Fapp (West Side Story) and beautifully directed by Norman Panama (Knock on Wood). Blu-ray Release date: November 20th, 2012

The Castle - A land surveyor is summoned to remote village by the local government, house in 'The Castle'. But when he arrives he is unable to persuade the locals of his legitimacy and himself in an absurd spiral of provincial bureaucracy that soon becomes a surreal, all encompassing nightmare. Ulrich Mühe (The Lives of Others) stars in Michael Haneke's masterful adaptation of Kafka's seminal novel. DVD Release Date: November 12th, 2012

In Your Hands - After a violent encounter with a disturbed stranger, Anna (Kristin Scott Thomas), a respectable surgeon, enters into a terrifying labyrinth of passion and danger, teetering constantly on the brink of control. An intense, claustrophobic thriller, In Your Hands is an astute and complex examination of the fluid, mutally treacherous relationship between victim and aggressor, captive and jailer. DVD Release Date: November 26th, 2012

They Live BD - John Nada (Roddy Piper) is a quiet loner, a drifter who gets work where ever he can find it. While working on a construction site in L.A. and sleeping in a vagrant community at night, John stumbles upon a secret society of alien beings who pose as wealthy and powerful people in human society. John joins a rebel group committed to exposing this conspiracy, and becomes their reluctant leader and the only hope of the human race. Wrestler Rowdy Roddy Piper is outstanding as the unassuming hero, playing the role with understated shock at what he uncovers and stubborn courage when he confronts it. Director John Carpenter laces the film with his trademark blend of humour and horror, making aliens that are hideously arrogant, greedy, and easy to hate, while the humans are confused and desperate in their struggle against them. The world looks a little different at the end of THEY LIVE, and one will never look at billboards, money, or sunglasses the same way again. Blu-ray Release Date: November 6th, 2012
