Four power-packed representatives of the western genre - three 2.35 aspect ratio cinemascope classics of the 50's and one very deserved, more modern, entry from the 70's (in 1.85). Fox continues with their strong pragmatic releases - devoid of substantial extras but priced for purchase. In this package you are getting them at almost a 50% discount from buying individually. Both Broken Lance and Forty Guns came out last year and the new entries are The Proud Ones and The Culpepper Cattle Co. For the most part, the image quality is exceptionally strong. All 4 are anamorphic, progressive transfers with optional English subtitles and clear original audio. At around $25, and their own keep cases, this is a fabulous deal - and we certainly recommend. As far as the films go, I loved them all. I have a special place for Forty Guns as it is a favorite film, but viewing the rest was an absolute pleasure as well. My biggest surprise was The Culpepper Cattle Co. which has gestures of other modern westerns (from Peckinpah to Eastwood). It seems like the black-sheep of the collection with the first 3 films being made in the 50's and Culpepper in the 70's, but it was a better film than it has been critically painted.
