It is obvious to see that the Universal Talkie version is the best picture quality it also indicates that the Laserlight version has had some cropping on all 4 edges. The Universal Silent version appears to have some "ghosting" associated with it and I assume is from a different source print - one originally telecin'ed in NTSC. As the Universal version contains both the silent and talkie versions of the film it doesn't bear comparing those two 9they are in essence 2 different films), but as almost any dvd-o-phile is aware companies like Laserlight, Madacy, Front Row Entertainment, and Koch are producing the lower end quality for fans wishing to adhere to the most genuine theatrical replication for their home theatre experiences. The Laserlight has also had some zooming and its Extras include the standard Tony Curtis opening and a trailer. We strongly recommend the Universal Region 2 version. |
