In 1866 New Mexico, Tom Corbett is a prospector who is called back to his hometown in Laramie Town, Texas at the bequest of a old family friend. Tom arrives in the town to see it under the control of a ruthless and greedy gangster named Jason Scott, who's psychotic and murder-crazed son, Junior Scott, runs it with fear with a posse of thugs who kill anyone who protests their business tactics. Tom finds his brother Jeff, a drunkard looked after by their family maid Mercedes. Tom then tries to persuade Jeff to help him take down the sadistic Scotts so the town can rest easy in peace and harmony again.

NOTE: "Update - Just got this info from Michael Hochhaus StudioCanal, license-owner for most countries of "Massacre Time" will release a French DVD of "Massacre Time" in 2006 (along with some other westerns). Possibly they release the first version. Some sources say that the first version includes a cemetery-scene and a different Italian dub."

There wasn't any doubt than any DVD release would be superior to the extra poor DWV edition released some years ago. The DWV looks like a transfer from a videotape with a stretched image cropped at the sides/bottom. Still I was very disappointed when the new Italian DVD arrived - the image is better but the colors are quite faded and it could have improvement in the areas of sharpness and detail.

A strange thing on the Italian release is the title "Tempo di massacro - Seconda Edizione" :

Could it be a re-release from the '70? I know my 4-sheet poster (at the top) is from a re-release sometime around 1977 - I haven't investigated if the 2 releases being of different cuts, but the running times indicates it's the same.

Both editions have artwork as extras, here is the DWV the best - the Italian is poorly scanned.

Lets hope that Koch, Blue Underground, Anchor Bay or some other more reputable DVD production company will do a proper release of this great Fulci western.
