NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc. "There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set..." (voiced by Vic Perrin who did voices on Jonny Quest and starred in many TV shows of the 60s.) With great anticipation, science-fiction fans have patiently awaited the original The Outer Limits second and last season arrived on Blu-ray. Season One is reviewed HERE. Kino are bringing us the 4 dual-layered BD discs housing all 17, + 2 alternate, original episodes, with commentaries, and a plethora of extras on the last disc.
NOTE: Dear valued Kino
Lorber customer,
2) Write “OUTER LIMITS Exchange” in the
Subject Line
There are many excellent episodes (favorites in BOLD);
Soldier, Cold Hands, Warm Heart, Behold
Eck!, Expanding Human, Demon with a Glass
Hand, Cry of Silence, The Invisible Enemy,
Wolf 359, I, Robot, The Inheritors: Part I,
The Inheritors: Part II, Keeper of the Purple Twilight,
The Duplicate Man, Counterweight, The Brain of
Colonel Barham, The Premonition, The Probe
and the alternate episodes The Unknown and the
un-aired pilot Please Stand By with many directed
by the likes of Gerd Oswald and Byron Haskin
NOTE: Please Stand By aired as the premiere
episode, "The Galaxy Being" with Cliff Robertson
and Jacqueline Scott and this, previously, un-aired
pilot looks weaker, visually, than the rest of the
boxset with no depth and inferior contrast in 1080P.
The audio is transferred via the option of linear PCM 2.0 channel
mono (16-bit) in the original English. Effects are modest and drama is
infused by the music. The bulk of the series had music composed by Harry
Lubin and Dominic Frontiere (Brannigan,
Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold,
The Invaders TV series,
The Stuntman) and it sounds authentically flat but
buoyant in the lossless transfer. Kino add optional English (SDH)
subtitles on their Region 'A'
Blu-ray disc.
Extras include 18 commentaries (I'm still getting through them - all
excellent so far) as: •
THE UNKNOWN – the alternate cut of “The Forms of Things
Unknown” intended a pilot for a show that was never
broadcast – with an optional audio commentary track by Dr.
Reba Wissner
What adds so much more value here are the commentaries.... the always
informative and impressive Tim Lucas, David Schow (author of
The Outer Limits
Companion), Reba Wissner (author of
We Will Control All
That You Hear: The Outer Limits and the Aural Imagination) and
other plus we get, on the 4th
Blu-ray, 12 TNT
promos with Robert Culp, Harlan Ellison, Martin Landau, Cliff Robertson,
William Shatner and Leslie Stevens, interviews with many, The Museum
of Television & Radio's William S. Paley Television Festival running
1 1/4 hours and more, plus the package has a 40-page liner notes book; "There
is Nothing Wrong with Your Television Set" (Season Two) with photos
and an excellent essay by Schow.
This Second Season Blu-ray
box, also, gets our absolute highest recommendation! -
