USA 2016
Still recovering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, actress Anna (SONS OF ANARCHY's Maggie Siff) feels that she has nothing more to offer and that her lead role in a hit series has nothing more to offer her. Walking off the set, she is advised by her agent (NEWSRADIO's Khandi Alexander) to take a real break during the show's haitus. Under the pretense of traveling to New York to sort out the sale of the apartment she still keeps there, Anna tries to reconnect with her old friends only to discover that idol Kate (Cara Seymour, ADAPTATION) has long since given up acting under the strain of alcoholism, and Isaac (John Ortiz, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK) has been unsuccessful in mounting new plays. As old resentments come to light and a new personal betrayal is unearthed, Anna is forced to confront the long-buried guilt she has felt over the effect her career choices have had on her once-closest friends. The accusation of navel-gazing is not uncommon in films about the personal problems of actors, but Siff's performance keeps Anna sympathetic even at her most self-involved. Lucas Near-Verbrugghe (LAZY EYE) also stars. |

Strand Releasing's dual-layer disc features a typically high-bitrate, progressive, anamorphic widescreen transfer that looks its best in bright scenes and copes well with the deliberately underexposed night exteriors and interiors. The Dolby Digital 5.1 track is rather limited in surround activity as befitting the intimate nature of the story. Besides the trailer and trailers for other Strand titles, the disc includes an interview with director Elisabeth Subrin who discusses her transition from experimental films to features, her first feature, another project long in development about the tech bubble (before it burst), and how reworking that project mutated into A WOMAN, A PART. She also discusses her interest in developing a project about the late Maria Schneider (LAST TANGO IN PARIS). |
