WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Hello friends! In the
current environment it is getting
more and more difficult for us to
maintain the website. Our income has
severely been diminished by the
increasing number of DVD/Blu-ray
producers selling discs from their
own sites. At present they don't
offer us affiliate commissions which
are our major source of income
(Amazon, Barnes and Noble etc.). To
continue producing comparisons,
reviews and articles, we
regretfully
request YOUR
assistance in the form of small
monthly donations. We have started a
Patreon page with the hopes that
some of our followers would be
willing to donate to keep DVDBeaver
alive. We are a small niche, so your
generosity is vital to our
existence. |

Directed by Wayne Kramer
USA 2003
Bernie Lootz (William H. Macy) is an unlucky guy. Everything he touches turns
bad. However, his ill fortune is the one thing he depends upon to do his job to
the best of his abilities; Bernie Lootz is the best 'cooler' in town. *** Truly down on his luck, lonely single guy Bernie Lootz (William H. Macy) works at a Las Vegas casino, where he uses his innate ability to bring about misfortune in those around him to jinx gamblers into losing. His imposing boss, Shelly Kaplow (Alec Baldwin), is happy with the arrangement. But Bernie finds unexpected happiness when he begins dating attractive waitress Natalie Belisario (Maria Bello) -- and when his contentment starts to affect his job, Shelly seeks to end the relationship. |

The
Blu-ray
1080P transfer is housed on a dual-layered disc with a modest bitrate. It can look
unusually clunky with, either a poor source, or the production itself
utilized ineffective stock. In its favor the appearance is consistent in
the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and is clean but the thickness exports
no visible depth. It looked strong on my system with colors gaining some
richness. Overall, not the height of the format in terms of image
quality but until we can compare to another transfer - this may be how
the film looks. |
