Viral video star George (co-writer Jeffery Self) has finally met the perfect mate in Joe (Matthew McKelligon, INTERIOR. LEATHER BAR.), a handsome, quiet, blank slate of a human being who must be a trust fund baby since he seems to have no job but has a funny shtick about about murdering people. Having spent time in a hospital to learn empathy and self-awareness, Joe is now thrust among Los Angelenos who appear to have none themselves. Taking George's sarcasm a bit too literally, Joe sets about removing obstacles to their happiness, from his cold-blooded own parents (GENERAL HOSPITAL's Carolyn Hennesy and Ranney Draper) and therapist (GIA's Sam Pancake) - more concerned about whether he taken up killing animals again than his sudden attachment to George - to George's toxic circle of friends too self-involved to realize they are in danger. George's viral co-star Barnes (THROWING SHADE's Bryan Safi) is the first to suspect that something is off about Joe, but George and the others think he is bitter and projecting after his own breakup with manchild Oli (SCRUBS' Shaughn Buchholz) who Joe has already murdered. Like everyone else, George thinks Joe "isn't scary, he's gorgeous" even though Joe was previously dating another of their friends (GAYBY's Matthew Wilkas) who has mysteriously disappeared. THE FACTS OF LIVE's Mindy Cohn makes a special appearance late in the film.

Comments

Wolfe Video's progressive, anamorphic widescreen transfer has been treated to an admirably high bitrate, so it seems as though some softness is inherent in the HD videography (the greenscreened viral video clips are deliberately flat). The Dolby Digital 5.1 track is generally front-oriented and not too adventurous in terms of sound design apart from the flashes of the protagonist's psyche and scoring. Extras are not very substantive, consisting of not particularly funny bloopers (less than a minute), some improv outtakes, and a trailer for the film.
