(aka "The Time Tunnel (TV Series)" or "The Time Tunnel: The Complete Series" )

Directed by Nathan Juran, Irwin Allen etc.
USA 1966-67

From the creative genius of Irwin Allen comes one of the most popular and original sci-fi shows of the 1960s, starring James Darren and Robert Colbert! The control of time is potentially the most valuable treasure that man will ever find. Or so believe the scientists of Project Tic Toc.

Located beneath the Arizona desert, the ten-year project s focus is the feasibility of time travel. But when the government reconsiders the project, the scientists have only 24 hours to prove their untested Time Tunnel will actually work. Determined to save the project, Dr. Tony Newman and Dr. Doug Phillips go through the tunnel and quickly find themselves catapulted from one historical event to another, barely escaping with their lives as their colleagues back in Arizona race to figure out a way to bring them back home.

Comments:

NOTE: The below Blu-ray captures were taken directly from the Blu-ray disc.

Revelation Films present the complete 30-episode series, from 1966-67, The Time Tunnel to seven, dual-layered, Blu-ray discs. Well before video - this was shot on 35mm, and like another sci-fi series of the late 60's, Star Trek, looks wonderful in 1080P. Despite the less-robust rendering with modest bitrates - the transfers are from the original camera negatives and colors are rich, detail raises above SD, and contrast is well layered - all certainly advancing on the past DVD packages.

The Blu-rays are offered in the original English language, via 24-bit linear PCM or a dynamic DTS-HD Master 5.1 bump. Colorful effects are reminiscent of The Fantastic Voyage, and the audio carries impressive depth with the music in episodes of the series credited to Herman Stein (The Mole People), Paul Sawtell (Jack the Giant Killer), Leith Stevens (The Wild One), John Williams (The Fury), George Duning (Picnic), Daniele Amfitheatrof (Letter From an Unknown Woman) etc. and the series music is often rousing and intense. This is especially notable in the surround track that has some subtle separations. There are optional English subtitles (see sample) on this Region-Free Blu-ray.

There are
extras although Revelation have not sent them as screeners for review but are listed as having; the original Unaired pilot Episode (HD Version) and the Unaired TV pilot entitled Time Travelers plus some TV movie cast interviews, a Irwin Allen's Behind-The-Scenes home movies video piece. There is a UK Edit (no audio) segment, promotional TV & Radio spots, a visual effects Camera Test (without audio) and some stills galleries.

As well as the series regulars James Darren and Robert Colbert - there is support from Whit Bissell and Lee Meriwether plus individual, recognizable, episode stars like Michael Rennie, Ellen Burstyn, Robert Duvall, Richard Jaeckel, John Saxon, Glen Colbert, Carroll O'Connor, Torin Thatcher, Tom Skerritt, Gary Merrill, Dennis Hopper etc. Another childhood favorite that I remember very fondly. It's great to revisit The Time Tunnel on Blu-ray, It was such an innocent, adventurous series with Irwin Allen's signature all over it. The package has a ton of nostalgia value and was one of the first to broach the time-travel fascination. Yes. some of the interior Tic-Toc lab visuals are evocative of Forbidden Planet. Love it! This is absolutely recommended!.
