(aka "The Girl Was Young")
Celebrated for the macabre, tour-de-force plots and
sublime twist endings that would come to define the very genre of
suspense, Alfred Hitchcock is one of cinema s greatest auteurs, his
career spanning six decades and over sixty films. One of Hitchcock s most significant pre-war thrillers a series of films that would help pave the way to even greater success in Hollywood Young and Innocent stars Derrick de Marney as Robert Tisdall, a man who turns fugitive after he finds the body of a young actress washed up on a beach and is promptly accused of her murder; Nova Pilbeam is the beautiful young woman whose help he enlists, and George Curzon features in one of his best-known British film roles as the jealous ex-husband who harbours a terrible secret... |

ADDITION: Network - Region 'B' -
Blu-ray
Audio has a mono, linear PCM that does its best and actually does have some stronger-than-expected depth albeit with the forgivable production limitations. There are optional English subtitles on the region 'B'-locked Blu-ray disc. Network give us a 3.5-minute introduction by Charles Barr (author of English Hitchcock - Movie Book Series) and the 25-minute, Carlton-produced, Hitchcock: The Early Years documentary covering Hitchcock's pre-war career (in 576i PAL), and lastly, a trailer in 1080P. Yes, some duplication with The 39 Steps, but still a highly entertaining Hitch , and I'm thrilled to have this in my collection in a superior BD package. This Blu-ray is absolutely recommended!*** ON THE DVDs: They look to be from the same print, with the same damage marks, but the Concorde is slightly cleaner. The Concorde is much brighter and any contrast boosting (which surely must be there) is not overly evident. The VCI edition looks faded, dull and full of chroma, but does seem to show a lot of film grain. There are no Extras on either DVD and only the Concorde offers subtitles (in German). Although neither edition is stellar looking, this is another example of why I should be buying the Concorde Boxset, which is looking very good right now.
