(aka "Como la espuma" )

directed by Roberto Pérez Toledo
Spain 2017

Cooped up in his late grandfather's mansion while looking for an adapted apartment, paraplegic Milo (Carlo D'Ursi) is not looking forward to his latest birthday party, so his pining best friend Gus (Nacho San José) hits upon the idea of throwing a very special party for him: an orgy. With his drag queen friend Camila (Javier Ballesteros) handing the guest list (and the drugs), Gus is reluctant to leave Milo in the company of his uninvited ex-lover Mario (Daniel Muriel) but he is determined to hire a foam cannon to remind Milo of his eighteenth birthday party. Many guests come in search of diversion while others hope to uncover inner depths. Married couple Jesús (Pepe Ocio) and Marta (María Cotiello) are looking to spice up their marriage with the unpredictable - and they get it as seasoned Rodri (Sergio Torrico) inveigles Marta into a three-way with virginal Alvaro (Álex Villazán) while Isma (Jonás Beramí) takes Jesús in hand on a journey into the unpredictable - uptight Elisa (Sara Sálamo) takes lessons in "talking slutty" from sociological orgy observer Jorge (Diego Martínez), middle-aged teacher Susana (Elisa Matilla) is in search of a man who loved her and left her with the help of smitten younger man Pato (Adrián Expósito), and the question of Camila's biological sex intrigues stoner Ruben (Miguel Diosdado) from flirtation to romance, and a pregnant girl (Raquel Quintana) tempts Gus into seeing how the other half loves. For a film teaming with bare flesh and simulated sex, the explicit content is actually rather coy but the characters to be engaging and even relatable in a series of intercutting vignettes.

Comments

Strand's high bitrate, dual-layer encode of this HD-shot flick looks good on DVD in the more conventional dramatic scenes where focus and camera placement are solid while the exterior pool scenes, particularly during the foam sequence, vary in sharpness and focus (some of which were probably shot with GoPro-type cameras like the one carried around the film by the "Selfie Guy"). The Dolby Digital 5.1 track is front oriented for much of this talk-heavy film with directional effects coming from offscreen moaning and running footsteps, and the surrounds are utilized for more distant noises and giving spread to the both source and score music. Optional English subtitles are available. The only extras are the film's trailer and trailers for four other releases.
